Summary: Sounds too good to believe
Review: I purchased DVD and CD for $12.98. How can you beat that?

DVD:
This thing definitely has plenty of post concert production and overdubs. But so what? The guys sound great and the energy is high throughout. The editing is like many rock DVDs - which is to say fast camera changes. Sure I would prefer if things slowed down a little, but the editing at least makes sense. (If you want to see really bad editing that makes no sense whatsoever check out the KISS Symphony DVD.) Song selection is great and these guys love playing on stage with each other and to the crowd. Chester's pipes are amazing. Linkin Park is the real deal.

CD:
Way too short! Only 40 couple of minutes long. What is up with that? Well, it's the extra CDROM stuff. Personally I would rather have them give us music (since that is what I'm really paying for) and give us the computer crap on their website. It takes too much room up on the CD. The music itself is great of course since it is just a subset of the DVD.

Bottom line:
Immediately purchase this combo. You will not be disappointed.

Summary: Great concert, but the DVD has some problems
Review: First, let me preface this review by saying that I saw the Summer Sanitarium tour (on which this DVD was filmed) three times. I wasn't a huge Linkin Park fan before the tour, but their performances at all three shows I saw were amazing, and I'm now proud to call myself a fan. Also, I don't know what kinds of drugs you other reviewers were on, but there's no way the crowd was louder for LP than Metallica. As evidence to this, you can see in the DVD that the stands are still half empty during Linkin Park's performance. Anyway, on to the review...

Let me say this is an awesome DVD even though I only rated it 3 stars. If you attended any Summer Sanitarium show (or wanted to) and enjoy Linkin Park, you must buy this. However, there are several flaws, the biggest of which being the production. I could do without the use of slow-motion, the backstage footage between songs, the virtual absence of the crowd from the audio mix, and the rapid changing of the camera angles. If you want to check out two perfectly-edited concert DVD's, buy Metallica's "S&M" and Dave Matthews Band's "Listener Supported."

My second gripe is that the swear words are edited out. At first I thought I had accidentally purchased the "clean" version, but I checked and there is no unedited version available. The only reason I can see to remove the swear words is to escape a "parental advisory" sticker. But why would they bother catering this DVD to kids who wouldn't have gone to this concert anyway if they weren't allowed to listen to "dirty" music? This is not only unfair to fans, but also deceives parents into believing that there are no swear words at a real Linkin Park concert.

Another small problem is that there are no subtitles, even though the box says English subtitles are included.

All that said, the quality of the audio mix is superb; perfectly re-mastered Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0.

Despite all the flaws that result in a 3-star rating, I still highly recommend this DVD.

Summary: An Energy Trip
Review: You can say a lot of things about Linkin Park, and believe me, I've probably heard it all. As a devoted fan of theirs for 5 years running (ever since the first time I saw the "crawling" clip on TV), what makes my day is seeing those guys playing live. No one can accuse them in rocking onstage less than their fans in the pit or stands, and no one can top their own enthusiasm for the show. When I see them rocking the (approximately) 50 thousand people in the audience in this DVD, I feel like crying because I'm not there as well, jumping and screaming the lyrics of the songs. They radiate so much energy even through the DVD medium, it's unbelievable. And seeing them performing live assures me of some little things, like: Chester being able to hold an entire show screaming and singing and without straining his vocal chords (goodness gracious man, you're awsome, you have a voice with a real presence), Mike being able to hold the tempo (how you even hear the drums in time through all the racket is beyond my meager comprehension), Mr. Hahn for rocking harder than Chester AND Mike (which seems impossible sometimes), Brad for singing and communicating with the audience even with his giant headphones, Phoenix for making a show even with a twisted ankle (and that's gotta hurt) and Rob for making me fall off the couch laughing with his funny faces.

As for the technical side, I have to mention that the sound is absolutely remarkable, the shooting is of good quality (even with the occasional oh-look-at-me-I'm-doing-an-artistic-performance-DVD screen blips), the editting is mostly okay (even though sometimes you can see other cameramen in the frame) and the total look is worth the money.

The only thing that distubed me through the entire show was that the editors never let the audience have their say. Yes, I know that "Crawling" was a great audience-y-collaborated song, but other than that we don't get to hear and see the audinece too much, which is a pity since Linkin Park are masters in heating their audience and rocking the pit. I found myself missing seeing the audience jumping and screaming many times througout the show, because there's your atmosphere. With the audience. I don't want to see only the band rocking, I want to see their fans too. That's what it's all about. Not only seeing your band, but seeing THROUGH the eyes of your band. And that's probably a sight to see.

Anyway, the DVD's great, and it's worth the money. I'm still all giddy and weak-kneed because of it. Damn. This totally made my day. Thank you Linkin Park. I anxiously wait the day I get to finally see you performing live and scream my lungs out.

Summary: Great performance, Bad editing
Review: The good:
Linkin Park is an awesome live act. Tight, energetic, strong vocals, a real layered sound achieved instrumentally and with Mr Hahn's manual scratching, keyboards and occasional loop. The sound on the DVD and CD sounds great to me. I'm not an expert at spoting overdubs, but I didn't hear anything suspicious. I also like that you get both a DVD and a CD in a reasonably priced package.
The bad:
The video was edited for teenagers. I felt like I was watching MTV cribs or something. Ridiculous. The cuts were so fast and jerky, it was hard to get a fix on anything. As a drummer, I like to check out the drummer and see what he's doing. It was just about worthless in that regard. The occasional drum shots lasted about a second. Of course I would like a multiple angle feature, which it didn't have on any songs.

So, I can't give the video 5 stars, but would recommend it to anyone who likes live hard rock.

Summary: Not real great
Review: I have several problems with this DVD. One is that they edit this way too much. They edit the language to avoid a parental advisory label, they constantly switch between Reliant Stadium and Texas Stadium during the middle of the songs, and sometimes you can't tell if they're actually showing the views that match the music or if they take parts from other portions of their concerts and just put it anywhere they want it to be. Also, the crowd is DEAD. I went to a Linkin Park concert in March and we sounded a lot louder than the Texas crowds, having at the most 14,000 fans at the concert I attended in March compared to probably 20,000 to 30,000 for both of these shows. I can also recall Mike saying to the Texas crowds, "You sounded pretty good on that last one," after one of the songs, while at the concert I went to he said, "You guys are loud!" The difference may also be that these concerts were in large football stadiums compared to the hockey/basketball arena I went to, having more a reverberation at the venue I went to; but the reverberations didn't make it that much louder! I can say that they did make the cd so that you can't tell that they skip some songs from the DVD. But, overall I'm dissapointed.

Summary: DVD is average
Review: I like to purchase DVD's of live concerts of bands that I think I might go see live. If their live performance is up to snuff when compared to the band's CD release with studio enhanced audio, I will seek out concert dates.
If the live footage/audio quality on the DVD is the same as studio cd, then I will go see them in concert and know I will get my monies worth.
Have you ever had this happen to you:
Sometimes a band's CD sounds awesome and you are hyped to go see them live, but when you see them live they stink up the place. (Trapt) You have to leave!
If you have not seen LP in concert, then this concert footage should hold you over until then.

Summary: Buy this now....It is awesome
Review: The DVD and CD are both awesome. I have a home theater and it sounds like Linkin Park is live in my house. I have watched the DVD about 4 times and it rocks. I can't stop listening to the CD in my car. If you think you may like LP, you will love this DVD/CD. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Linkin Park In Texas DVD
Review: This DVD was insane on a 53 inch widescreen TV. I was wondering what the hubbub was with the crowd noise, but alot of things were good on the DVD. A good one to fire one up to and kick back.
