Summary: Better Than Some People Say...
Review: The sound is excellent. I was impressed with the overall sound quality. If you are a U2 fan you will love this DVD. Sure, it has the MTV trickery, thrill-cam, zooming approach, but what else do you want? My 2-year-old even likes it. I was disappointed that Pride and Mysterious Ways were left off the set list.

Review: I went to 2 of the elevation concerts and they were better than this one.. I have no complaints for his voice or whatever, but he should've played Pride, One, mysterious ways, I still haven't found what I'm looking for and so on.. I think the VHS could have been a bit better..

Summary: U2-Elavation DVD - "MISSED OPPORTUNITY"
Review: Chris NYC,USA First of all I must say I agree 100% with Michael Behuniak from Seattle, WA USA who wrote an excellent review here. I attended three of the shows during this tour and must admit that this DVD fails to capture the spirit, intimacy and intensity of the tour. My big problem with this DVD it's direction and editing is annoying, distracting and just plain poorly done.
There seems to be a single mindedness of the director's part here to focus only on BONO the entire show. We are all sick of the rapid fire disorienting style of editing that MTV has made so popular. This is not a MTV video! The director obviously didn't know his audience too well. U2 fans in general are patient people with normal attention spans who enjoying being able to focus on a shot and enjoy the music. The best editing is when the viewer is not aware of it. It should be seemless and flow naturally. For example, if the viewer hears a guitar solo they expect to also see the guitarist playing it. Don't make us crawl in our seats with agitation waiting and hoping to see the guitarist! This also is applicable to any band member. If the song opens with a bass line, show us the bass player etc. The best filmed concert video without question was U2 LIVE AT RED ROCKS. It captured it all and didn't miss a beat or a shot. It should be a textbook course in "HOW TO FILM A ROCK CONCERT". It beyond comprehension why this concert is not availble on DVD? What is u2 thinking? I hope that when they finally do release Red Rock on DVD they don't blow that opportunity by not packaging it correctly. The correct way would be to release it as a FULL-LENGTH concert with the originally deleted songs, "Two Hearts,An Cat Dubh, Twilight, Into the Heart etc. Also, for extras it might be cool to package it using the seperate fixed camera angles. For example it would be awesome to have a concert with a camera angle for each band member. How about an Edge cam, Adam cam, Larry cam. Believe it or not people do find it fascinating to watch them play the music. It can get boring just watching Bono all the time. But the most disturbing part of this DVD is the fact the Director had the NERVE to put himself on it!!! This is what really got me upset, it then became quite clear that he likes to stroke his own HUGE ego. What a waste of disc space! And I'm sure like most of you reading this you couldn't have cared less to watch this guy calling camera shots while he danced around like a dork in the control room. This space could have been used for more usefull stuff. How about an interview with Edge , or a soundcheck by the band, or an Edge CAM angle I could go on and on..anything but the director himself. Shame on him. Now I'll just sit and wait and pray that they release "Under A Blood Red Sky" soon.

Summary: Extra's are mediocre, but concert shines!
Review: I was disappointed when I heard what the extras were for this DVD. Being a huge fan, I was hoping for interviews, beind the scenes with the band, even maybe some videos from the songs. Instead, we get a 5 minute 'how they build a concert stage' (honestly, who cares) and a documentary regarding the techies who help put the show together. As interesting as that may be, we want to see more of the band! Well, even though the extras were lame, the concert on disc one proves that U2 are a band that can go another 20 years and still shine. 19 songs performed without the glitz and spectacle of Popmart or ZooTV, rather allowing the music to hold itself up rather than technical showiness. Most of the songs are culled from the new album, but some classics are thrown in as well. Unfortunately fan favourites like 'One' and 'Mysterious Ways' were left off this performance, but we do get great versions of 'Stay' and a rocking version of 'The Fly'. What makes this show so great is how the songs often manage to sound better live than they do out of the studio. 'Walk On', which closes the show, is an amazing example of this. I would say that every U2 fan should own this but, chances are, they already do.

Review: That's the number of times I must have already watched this video. With superb camera angles and an incredible apt for capturing the energy of the crowd, this video is not only a must see, but a must own!! One thing is for sure, if you don't know or like U2, you certainly will find that changing after viewing Elevation. Walk On!!!

Summary: Expected too much...
Review: Easy to digest short answer: Just as good as the Zoo TV and PopMart videos. If you like those, you'll like this one, but some of the same problems exist. The biggest one is Bono's voice, which often dies, especially during a particularly lifeless Sunday Bloody Sunday. Setlist gripes mean very little to me anymore, as the songs that I wanted (End Of The World, Kite, Gone, Stay, Streets, and The Fly) are all there. Come on, people. Pride, One, and (unfortunately) Mysterious Ways are all done to death at this point, and they're all on the other videos. One weird note is that Bono is strangely lecherous in this show, rolling around sweatily with a femal fan during With Or Without You and then biting someone's arm in The Fly. The rest of it is a typical U2 concert movie- they're always jittery when someone puts the camera on them and don't perform as well (handy excuse, huh?) according to fans who've been to shows. I've been to shows, and it's about the same, even though the only 2 I've seen were abnormally underwhelming. The video's fun, though. If you're a fan, you won't be too disappointed. If you didn't like U2 before, you could lighten up a little, but this won't change your mind. Bummer, hmmm?

Summary: awesome concert brought to your own home
Review: I personally went to U2 in Boston, i went to show #4, which to most people was the best. I couldn't wait to come home and watch this again, this time on my couch. you see so much more on the movie than you do when u are actually there. This is a must buy for U2 fans all around the world and a must be for anyone into music. they put on an awesome show and everyone should be able to see them.

Summary: Best way to relive a great experience
Review: I saw the show in New York's Madison Square Garden from behind the stage, in the uppermost section... I'm so happy that I actually made it to the concert and that it was such a great show that I didn't mind. This DVD blew me away; it even made me want to dance in my living room. Although a few "key" songs were missing, the set list is great and the band's connection with its fans is almost as heartfelt on screen as it is on stage.

Summary: Want U2 magic? The DVD just doesnt have it
Review: The packaging for this DVD is some of the best that has ever been on a DVD, including a booklet with great photos, and a fold out DVD with 2 discs. I saw U2 in early may this year, and i have to say it is the best concert i have ever been to. U2 is definately the best touring band out there today, of course besides radiohead. But i was disappointed with the track listings on it. The concert we got was alot different from the ones on the track listings. There arent as much radio singles on the concert dvd, and includes alot of earlier stuff, which isnt a bad thing, but i'm a fan of their electro-era in the 90's, particularly Zooropa and Pop, as my 2 favorite U2 albums. They are nowhere to be seen, except for the breathtaking "stay faraway so close", which is my favorite u2 ballad ever. I'm glad sunday bloody sunday and new years day made it on there, but it seems as if they are ashamed of the path they took in the 90's. Plus, there were alot of weird camera angles they took, and it didnt really show all that was going on in the concert, and hardly displayed the great special effects of the concert. Plus, they ommited one of the best performances of the night that i saw them, Mysterious Ways. So if youve never experienced a U2 concert, and dont have the money or they are touring far away, this concert DVD will have to do. But the concert in real life- there is no comparison. The extra features are wonderful too and should be worth purchasing even if you already saw the concert. Well thats my review- hope i was helpful.

Summary: Great Song List, Great Performance, and Great Direction
Review: I recently saw a copy of U2's Rattle and Hum DVD not too long ago and wasn't very impressed with the sound/picture quality, and its poor direction. Fortunately, I was not disappointed by this 2001 Elevation Tour DVD. The DVD is a 2 disc set, packed with features, including a Behind the scenes tour, and other bells and whistles such as alternate viewing angles and bonus tracks. But regardless of these extra features on the 2nd disc, the heart of this DVD set lies in the actual concert itself, which is well directed, has excellent sound and video quality, and best of all, has a great list of songs - all of which are performed exceptionally well. (I'm also very glad that Bono doesn't babble too much between songs - he just keeps to the singing.) This is definately a purchase worthy to be seen over and over again.
