Summary: A feast for the ears!
Review: This is a GREAT concert DVD. The audio is FANTASTIC! the multi-angle video is ice cream on the cake. Buy it just for the surround sound. The only downside is that it is not wide screen; awwwww!

Summary: Satch Rule's
Review: I'll cut the BS and just get to the point. I had high expectations about this dvd before I got it. Usually, when I have that attitude towards things before I buy them, I'm dissapointed. But, the dvd kick ass, and then some!
The Video/picture-
I can't really point out any flaw's about this at at. The picture is amazing. The film crew definetly knew what they were doing. They got right to the point and didn't have the multi-angles change every 4 seconds, which drives me nuts. Though, there are great multi -angles on this dvd, as well as 'even more' multi-angles in the special features on disc 1. Very good view's of satch's hands and fretboard, as well as great shots of Jeff, Eric and Stu.
The sound/audio-
The sound is good too. One reviewer said they didn't like his tone. Well, I think he has the best lead guitar tone ever. I do agree the drums and bass don't match the sound compared to the G3 '96 DVD. But, that's just "nick pickin." All the sound is overall well.
The Songlist-
The songlist is almost perfect. All of his best songs are on this. Check it out for yourself. But, my two favorite songs arn't on this album- "Crushing Day", and "War." but he never play them live anyway. Other than that, it's a great buy, and a great way to feel connected to satch's awesome playing and songs.

Summary: Remember "The sounds of Silence"?
Review: Yes, the classic tune of Simon and Garfunkel. One line say: "People hearing without listening". That one's dedicated from me to a short-term memory that hears Satriani's music all the same. Is Flamenco guitar all the same too? Never! There's Fandango, buleria, soleares... But there's a "style", called "Flamenco". That's the point. Sounds similar sometimes, but you have to learn the little bits and pieces that makes a style to really understand one. Satriani style's wide, I know. But he's got one! There's no coincidence he's got every guitarist out there trying to play his riffs (...or just one God, I pray thee...) Vai incorporated Satch's style in his own style. But doesn't mean he copied it. I think the point is clear by now and I know why I should not write another review of this gorgeous concert, the real proof of a talented human musician... yes that's it: musician before guitarist... talented before copycat, and human before alien...

Summary: More of the Same
Review: I initially had high expectations for this DVD after seeing the overwhelmingly positive reviews, and was EXTREMELY dissapointed.
Any several songs are pretty impressive, but as mentioned by others, Joe's tone is very monotonous. Also, the overall sound is not that great, the bass is muddy, drums sound flat, pretty bad. I'll be selling this one ASAP.

Summary: An awesome DVD!
Review: I am a HUGE Satriani fan,so I had to check this out.It was awesome. The DVD quality is excellent overall, plus there was a really cool light show! The guitar playing is incredible,as always. There is also an AWESOME bass solo by the world's greatest rock bassist,STU HAMM!There also multiple angles of the first three songs on Disc 1,and Disc 2 has a discography and some cool backstage footage. For all you Satch purists out there, this DVD contans one song from "Not Of This Earth",five from his best album,"Surfing With The Alien",one from "Dreaming#11",four from "Flying In A Blue Dream, three from "The Extremist",one from "Joe Satriani"(The blues one),six from "Crystal Planet",and three from "Engines Of Creation".I'm signing off for now.In the mean time if you can,go to a G3 concert.I did,and it was incredibly awesome. If you can't,get the DVD.Also check out Steve Vai's new DVD "Live in Astoria,London",whick comes out November 18.

Summary: Awe-inspiring.
Review: I've been listening to Satriani albums since SWTA and been thrilled with the blend of virtuosity, catchy riffs and melodic sensitivity. As a matter of fact, Joe probably inspired me to start learning guitar because I couldn't achieve his effects on a piano or synth. I won't ever achieve them on guitar either, personally, but at least I have a new appreciation for the axe.

I just picked up this DVD at a Zellers of all places, and hoped that on my student's budget I wouldn't regret purchasing it. I needn't have worried! I only have a pair of cheap JVC enclosed headphones connected to my computer, but the audio sounded great and I hope to afford a proper surround-sound home theater system someday to enjoy the full live effect. Electric atmosphere puts you almost right in the action, with flying and handheld camera views all over the place. I agree with one reviewer who complained that the variety of tone over the whole concert was not immense, but the beauty of the songs and power of the performance were still enough to validate the whole package.

Stu Hamm played marvelously as always, and Jeff Campitelli laid a terrific drum kit down. Eric Caudieux provided appropriate keyboards. Unfortunately, while Caudieux also played rhythm guitar in theory, to my ear he might as well not have been there at all since it was deemed fit to effectively silence his guitar playing from the audio track. What gives? We all know how prominent the rhythm guitars can be on the studio albums; why not give Caudieux just enough presence to be heard, if indeed he is talented enough to play onstage? I hope this is just due to my lack of expensive speaker hardware, but I fear otherwise...

Anyway, apart from that one niggling point I give both thumbs up.

Summary: Wow! What A Fantastic Concert DVD!
Review: This is truly one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen on DVD. The visual and audio mix are absolutely stunning. The audio aspect of this DVD is extremely crisp. The visual aspect of this DVD is great too. There is nothing worse than having a concert on DVD that looks and sounds terrible. You can have the audio sound perfect all day long, but it is the visual quality that has to be there; otherwise, I could just buy the cd of this concert. That is why you buy the DVD to see Joe play. Joe's band is extremely tight and just a blast to watch play. Then there is Joe....who just rips and soars through this 2-DVD concert. My only gripe is Joe's performance on the disc 1. He seemed to be kind of in a "rush" or something, but he did a good job (I could never do what he does). I am just saying he didn't play the songs as percised and articulate as he did on disc 2. Other than that minor complaint, you will not be disappointed with this DVD.

Summary: where's the beef?
Review: I'm a 50 yr old with 30 yrs. playing and own every album Joe has made so why does this dvd rate 1 star? TONE!!!! Joe plays excellent, the filming and eq are great but every song sounds the same! If it were'nt for Raspberry Jam and Stu's solo on Love Thing this would not be in my collection. I own every guitar dvd I can get my hands on and my fellow pickers and I agree that the monotony of listening to the same guitar for two disc's kills the show. Other artist's (with endorsement) can pick up a Gibson, Fender or even an accoustic to mix things up a bit. Love Thing sounds 200% better are the album. This is an Ibanez commercial. Clapton in the recent PBS Blues Special stated that his Cream period was self indulgent-ditto for this dvd.
Every concert dvd in my collection has "magic moments" that are awe inspiring to guitar players, I'm not talking 19 yr old death metal dudes and this one takes a back shelf.

Summary: Relies too much on subwoofer.
Review: My system doesn't include a subwoofer, but my mains have 10 inch woofers. To take advantage of this, my receiver moves a lot of the LFE track off to my mains, and for my other dvds (30+ movies), that is plenty, sometimes too much. For this dvd I can only tolerate playing the PCM 2 channel track to get enough bass to make it sound full. The 5.1 track sounds horribly empty. The video portion is not bad, though. I'm sure it sounds good with a killer sub though, and I intend to test it on a friend's system.

Summary: amazing! Top notch Satriani
Review: This a great Dvd set! Every song is a masterpiece. This dvd has great camera angles. (close ups of the guitar and his playing hands.) The sound quality is great. I would highly recommend this Dvd to any Satriani fan, it's great!
