Summary: What A Show
Review: After more than 30 yars of waiting for an official live document of Daryl Hall and John Oates, the wait is finally over now that thei A & E "Live By Request" show has been released on dvd.

Hall and Oates sound better than ever on this dvd. Hall's voicE ages like fine wine. He turns in smooth gospel - like readings on "Sarah Smile", "Everytime You Go Away" (requested via phone by Carly Simon), and the cover of "Me And Mrs. Jones". He gives "Rich Girl" a nice, bluesy feel, and rocks out on "Maneater", "Private Eyes" and "You Make My Dreams". Oates contributes some great guitar work and harmony vocals, as well as a stunning duet with Hall on "She's Gone".

The 5 bonus songs provide an additonal thrill. First, there's an exhilerating version of "Family Man" that beats the studio version by a long shot with its eerie acoustic intro. Next comes two great songs from the "Do It For Love" album, "Life's Too Short" and "Getaway Car". "One On One" is dusted off and done nice and smooth. Finally, there's a blissful rendition of "Kiss On My List" with Hall's great keyboard florishes.

The extras are anothe gret part. There's a nice, indepth interview with the duo, with Hall taking up most of the screen time. There's also a phone call montage and a discography.

My only complaint is that, with the exception of the woman who requested "It's A Laugh", no hardcore fans called up. The songs selected are basically casual hits. You would expect someone to call u something like "Las Vegas Turnaround", "How Does It Feel To Be Back" or "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid". You know, something rarely heard. But other than that, this is really a great dvd that everybody will enjoy.

Summary: Everytime You Go Away, Take This DVD With You
Review: After more than 30 years of waiting for an official live document of Hall and Oates in concert, the wait is finally over. "Daryl Hall and John Oates Live In Concert" is actually their A & E Live By Request Show", meaning that the song selection might have been better, but I'm here to rate the performances, not the setlist.

The concert kicks off with an electrifying version of "Maneater", which comes off better than the original version. "Sarah Smile" has more of an edge to it thanks to Daryl's rougher - sounding vocals and a more prominent guitar. "Private Eyes" sounds uncannily like the studio version, except for the crowd noises and the sound quality. "Rich Girl" has a nice slow build - up, while the then - new hit "Do It For Love" comes off nicely. "Everytime You Go Away" is heartfelt and fun. I didn't much care for the acoustic versions of "Out Of Touch" and "Say It Isn't So". These are my 2 favorite Hall and Oates songs of all time, and I was hoping for versions that were closer to the original versions. "You Make My Dreams" benefits from great guitar rocks and is my favorite song here. The cover of "Me & Mrs. Jones" features a scorching vocal by Daryl, while "She's Gone" features punchy vocal interplay by Daryl and John. "Forever For You" I really enjoyed, and it was a nice surprise to hear "It's A Laugh" a top 20 hit from 1978 that was all ut forgotten until someone requested it. The finale is a long version of "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)".

The bonus materials features 5 bonus performances, discograph, phone calls and an indepthinterview with the duo. A great show.

Summary: Masters of Modern Rock and Soul
Review: After viewing this DVD I thought to my self...why aren't these guys in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? After 30+ years in the business they show you visually they still have it. Great show and great selection of some of their many hits. This is a must for all Hall and Oates fans worldwide. Many extras as to go along with including interviews with Daryl and John.

Summary: Hall and Oats live DVD
Review: As a fan from the 70s and 80s I was disappointed to see the quality of the performance . The video and audio were good , as well as the content of the sets . I understand the performers have aged but the SPARK was definitly missing .

Summary: What you've been waiting for...
Review: As a Hall and Oates fan of two decades, this is what I have been waiting for from the two very talented and gifted musicians. I have always admired how they have never put things out for the sake of making money or keeping themselves in the public eye. It's about quality, and it shows through on this DVD. Sharp, simple, classy, well-packaged, and very well done, this product gives real insight on what has made Hall and Oates the top-selling duo in the history of rock music. The format of call in and playing requests shows their versatility and talent, but more importantly their love for live performance, their fans, and their music. Bravo to them and the producers of this DVD. It's been a long time coming!!

Summary: What a difference...they still have it!!
Review: First of all, this DVD was aired live in March of 2003. If you've seen Hall & Oates live in concert or just seen a live video of them, you will totally appreciate this spontaneous concert. Hall & Oates blend music brilliance with comedy and audience interaction. Yes, they play smaller venues now, but the show has gotten better and the songs have evolved throughout the years. They did new songs with many re-worked classics, some even in acoustic form, which entertained the NY crowd and America "live" for 90 minutes, providing great Rock 'N Soul music. Daryl Hall proves to be one of the best vocalists of the 70s through the present, especially with his rendition of the "caught-off-guard" phone request, Me & Mrs. Jones.

What a difference in sound quality as compared to the original A&E Live By Request aired program. The producers of this DVD removed all the phone calls and allowed the final song (No Can Do) to play until it was completed. So, it was like the phone calls never existed. The broadcast had a lot of replaying song parts for commercial breaks. These are no longer present. The DVD also includes an exclusive interview and 5 bonus songs after the show went "off the air." They included most of the phone calls in a separate section of the DVD. The only song that was not included was "Method of Modern Love," which was only played for a few seconds in between commercials.

I recommend this DVD as, hopefully, one of many to come in the future by the most successful Philly-influenced Pop/Rock duo of all times!

Summary: Great Buy! Two Discs: An Audio CD and a DVD
Review: Hall & Oates are fantastic, after over 30 years of performing together.

This CD/DVD shows them at their best. It's a great concert, based on the "A&E Live By Request" call-in show in spring 2003. This set includes an audio CD of the concert, as well as a DVD with the concert, bonus songs, and an interview.

Excellent!!!!!

Summary: 30 year wait is over
Review: Hall & Oates fans have waited 30 years for their first official DVD and here it is. I thought the quality of the DVD was excellent. However other than ME & MRS JONES & ITS A LAUGH, I thought the song selection was predictable. Considering some of the other DVD's out there by veteran artists and the fact that Hall & Oates have never released a DVD, I guess I was expecting more songs on this DVD and more "obscure" selections other than than the usual hits you have heard over and over again through the years.

Although they call themselves a duo, John Oates appears to be merely an extension of the band and very rarely takes lead or even sings duets with Daryl Hall. It would have been nice to hear John take lead on a few songs instead of appearing as basically an extension of the band.

Overall I would rate this as fair to good because of its low price and long wait for Hall & Oates fans.

The live accompanying CD alone makes it worth buying this DVD.
