Summary: Believe the Unbelievable
Review: I got the rare opportunity to see her "Believe Tour" in Minneapolis in 1999. I sat only ten rows away from the stage. Cher was amazing! Though there's nothing like live experience, this DVD still features the Las Vegas concert wonderfully. The elaborate stage settings and the numerous costumes are amazing. Such energy gives her music and her show the extra enjoyment. She opens the show with "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". It lives up to the original U2 version. From that song to the end, there's never a dull moment. The film clippings from her past interviews, performances, music videos, movies, and the "Sonny And Cher Show" are enjoyable. They show more of how she's evolved from "Gypsies, Tramps, And Thieves" to the Grammy-winning "Believe". Besides her stage presence, her voice is amazing. Such concert quality makes this DVD worth watching several times. This is important material for any Cher fan to include in their collection.

Summary: What a Perfomer
Review: This concert CD is awesome. Performance are Excellent, Her Staff/ Dancers and performers are just great (they all work well together). Plus the extra fottage and interviews really show the humanside (non celebrity) side to Cher. She is the Best Diva of all times. I strongly recommend this DVD to everyone. 5 stars all the way if there were more I would give her 40 one for each year she has been performing

Review: CHER:LIVE IN LAS VEGAS 1999. Finally Cher at her absolute best. If you are not a Cher fan and want to know why this woman has had a career that has spanned four decades--buy this video tape and it will all be clear to you. Over the years this author has seen cher in concert over ten times--her 1999 concert is her absolute best musical outing. It's all here--film clips, TV show clips, video clips and just about all of the songs. There's "Halfbreed" "Dark Lady" and "Gypsies Tramps & Thieves"--tunes Cher has refused to sing until this year! Theres all the 80's power rock stuff "If I Could Turn Back Time" "I Found Someone" and "We ALL Sleep Alone." Theres DISCO CHER "Take Me Home," COUNTRY CHER "Just Like Jesse James" "Walkin' In Memphis." There's BALLAD CHER "The Way Of Love" "After All," KITSCH CHER "It's In His Kiss," and MILLENIUM CHER "Believe" "All Or Nothing" and "Strong Enough" The only thing missing from this comprehensive career overview is the singer's two 1960's hits "I Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On"--but you get to hear those while the video clips are playing! At 52, this woman looks and sounds wonderful--an inspiration to one and all.

Summary: All I can say is, "WOW!"
Review: OK, I finally admit it --- I've been a Cher fan ever since the days of the top-rated Sonny & Cher show, which aired on CBS in the early 1970's. Each week, I looked forward to Cher's latest Bob Mackie creations, her lushly-orchestrated musical numbers and even Sonny Bono's bad jokes. Cher has always been the first to admit that she's not the greatest singer in the world and that's probably true. But she is, without a doubt, one of the foremost entertainers in show business. This DVD of her sellout 1999 concert at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is, in my opinion, the highlight of Cher's long, illustrious career. I was actually surprised to find that it was so good. Not only is Cher in the most -incredible- voice of her career at this concert, she looks better than ever and puts on a show that will leave your heart pounding with excitement. It must have cost zillions to mount this lavish production but you can clearly see and hear every penny that was spent. Even if you are not a Cher fan, you will love this video simply for it's immense production values. It's fitting that this spectacular show was performed at the MGM, three letters which have stood for the finest in quality entertainment since 1924. "Do it big, do it right, give it class" -- this was an MGM rule in the old days and Cher's sensational show at the MGM Grand certainly lives up to that standard. Packed with spectacle and song, this DVD is a bargain at -any- price but it's a fantastic value here at Amazon.com. So go for it. You will not be disappointed. After watching this video, you'll enthusiastically proclaim, "Wow! That's entertainment!"

Summary: Turned me into a fan
Review: I didn't know most of Cher's bulk of work until I saw this concert. I only owned "Believe", and while that album was spectacular in many ways, I wasn't sure about her older stuff. This video has it all... all the great songs, both old and new(er) to truly make you believe. It pretty much showcases every single outstanding Cher track... except for maybe, "One by One" and the tracks from her latest album, which was of course released after this concert. The show is pretty lively, to say the least! She's fun, cracks jokes when she gets the chance, the costumes are everything you've come to expect from her and it's just all-around fabulous. If you still have any doubts, do yourself a favor and get this! It's pure Cher extravanganza (in the purest sense of the word)!!

Summary: Do you Believe? Oh you will when you see this concert.
Review: Cher still has it. This concert is the best. I suggest this to all Cher fans. In this DVD you will see Cher in lovely outfits and stunning wigs. This concert contains her best songs to Dark Lady to Believe. You will be amazed with her wonderful and powerful voice. I am telling you that you will not be disappointed with it but there is one thing I'm only disappointed with and that is one thing and that is her outfit for we All Sleep Alone, and the problem is that she CAN have more outfit on the outfit. Well anyway that is the only thing wrong but the rest is perfection. Thankyou everyone for reading my comment on the DVD and I am not kidding about this DVD so please think about it and when you buy it you will watch it over and over again. And then you will believe that Cher is the best singer and performer alive!

Summary: CHER and CHER-alike: different versions of same performance!
Review: As an audience member and personal guest of CHER present at the live taping of this show at the fabulous MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1999, I can honestly say that the next best thing to having been there in person is seeing and hearing this un-BELIEVE-able concert on DVD!

This show was taped entirely during ONE performance on August 28, 1999, and was first broadcast on August 29, 1999 on HBO. Nothing was edited, and no retakes from earlier performances were used . This is the CHER show just as it was performed, mistakes and all. CHER flubs a lyric at the beginning of "All or Nothing" when she sings "I've been calling out name...", which could easily have been edited, but they left it in. When CHER's cape got caught on the stairs when she removed it during the opening song, different camera angles were used so as not to show her struggling with the cape to untangle it. (You can barely see it getting caught as the camera switches to a closeup of a guitar.) NOTHING WAS CUT OR EDITED OR CHANGED, this is the entire performance just as it occurred! I think CHER deserves credit for this. Streisand would have retaped it over and over and over and over, using only the best takes. (Ask anyone who was ever present at a Streisand taping!)

I originally taped this show on my home VCR when it premiered on HBO. I watched it the day after it was first broadcast, having just returned home from Las Vegas where I had witnessed the live taping. I originally thought the HBO-aired version was great, until I saw the DVD version. What a difference in quality! The DVD transfer is so superior to the quality of the video tape version that HBO aired, that it is like seeing an entirely different show!

The DVD and VHS versions sold in stores are identical to one another, yet these versions are not the same as the version you could have taped directly from an HBO broadcast of the show. They were recorded during the same performance, yet not only is the video quality remarkably different, but completely different camera angles were used for the two versions. This makes the DVD/VHS versions of the show quite different from the HBO broadcast version! (For total CHER fanatics, try watching the two versions side-by side!)

The DVD presentation, digitalized and surround-sound enhanced is quite an incredible experience. If you are a CHER fan (and who isn't, HELLO!), then you MUST purchase this DVD and watch it often. All-in-all, this is a must-have CHER experience on DVD!

The DVD also offers some great extras (not available on the VHS version) that can honestly qualify as "never-before-seen". The film clips that were shown on the large on-stage screen behind CHER as she performed, are presented here in their entirety. If you were at the show in person, there was too much happening on stage to keep your eyes on the big screen. If you saw the show on HBO, they didn't show all the footage that was projected on the big screen. The ONLY way to see these film and video clips is to watch it on the DVD version. That alone is worth the price of owning the DVD.

The only complaint I have with the DVD version is that the ending has been altered somewhat from what we witnessed at the actual show, and from what was originally broadcast on HBO. At the very end, CHER comes back on stage to thank everyone and tell the audience "You're gonna look real cute on TV". Then a recorded version of "Believe" was played, to which CHER and the cast all danced. On the DVD version, you can't hear this music, and the cast looks rather silly standing there dancing in silence! I have no idea why they deleted the music, and it is very strange. WHY?

Also, the end credits were originally broadcast over a sweeping panoramic helicopter view leaving the MGM Grand and flying out of Las Vegas. The DVD version shows the credits on a plain black background, the neon spectacle of Las Vegas nowhere in sight. It was a spectacular ending, and they cut it. A minor deletion, but again, WHY?

CHER, we love ya! Thanks for the free tickets to the taping of this show. We'll never forget you for it! This DVD is a great way to remember and relive the magic! BELIEVE IT!

NOTE: Hopefully someone will eventually release a DVD version of CHER's current 2002 LIVING PROOF show (being taped in Miami on November 8, 2002 for later broadcast on NBC) in it's entirety. I personally feel that the LIVING PROOF show, while essentially the same as the BELIEVE show, is even better. Although it will probably be chopped and cut for the original television broadcast, they could always restore it and include bonus footage for the DVD release. Let me be the first to pre-order that DVD!

Summary: Cher has still got it babe!
Review: Cher is simply the BEST. I was lucky enough to catch her live show this past summer and she put on an OUTSTANDING show, probably one of - if not the most entertaining show I've ever seen. This DVD of Cher live in Las Vegas captures her in all her greatness. She has never looked better! She is quite stunning and her voice is just as mesmorizing as it was 30 years ago. She goes through her hits one by one electrifying her performance. We even get to see old footage of her and Sonny and her own variety show. As an added bonus we get to see clips of her films. She transforms into several different looks through out the show looking more and more beautiful and sexy than before. She's truly a legend and an icon for all those young gals trying to make it in this business. She sings everything from "I Found Someone" to "Half Breed" to "Believe" I am hoping for the Farewell Tour to be released next so we can see "Song For the Lonely". CHER is one of kind :)
