Summary: Too Much FUN to pass up!!
Review: Waited for this DVD for years. While I agree with some other folks about the lack of thoughtfulness in presentation, easter egg hell and no current interviews with the band, my bitching stops here.
I mean c'mon these videos are GREAT!! And was it me or did they contain a huge number of references to uh kinky acts? Girls on Film and the Chauffeur are downright porn. Plus, you cannot miss the S&M thing going on in Reflex. Good times, good times. Also I have to hand it to the band's artistic/aesthetic fearlesness. Check out their clothes in Electric Barbarella or how gorgeous the visuals are in Come Undone. Duran Duran is what a pop band should be, with FUN music!! Don't pass this one up.

Summary: SWEET & SOUR, the good, the bad and the UGLY...
Review:

Ok, I've just bought it. After many years of waiting for this I have it but...
If you are reading these reviews then you must buy this DVD. There are several issues that unfortunately left a bitter taste.

The band, music and videos:

Excellent, excellent, excellent.

The DVD layout and features:

Appalling is an understatement. The hidden videos are certainly hidden and it is a nightmare to find them. I have a PAL version but it is probably the same with the other ones. The way I found the hidden videos is: When you have the main title on the screen (GREATEST) move the cursor to the A click on it and a photo gallery will appear. Select the album and on the left you will have small previews of the singles. Click on the singles and the ones that have a hidden video will give you the option to play them, if you do select play you will see the hidden version. This is one of the most frustrating DVD I have encountered. In addition to all that having chopped the beginning of View to a kill is unforgivable.

Technically:

The visual quality of some of the videos have improved a lot over the VHS editions but some of the videos have only marginally improved showing still a lot of color noise and lots of grain. The sound is better and clearer however someone has pushed the high frequencies a lot which makes the sound in a large stereo a bit unbalanced but that's not a big problem.

Overall I think this DVD is a must have but the record company has been quite weak. After having all these years to produce a decent product they have failed. I only give it four stars because of the artistic value but if I have to take into consideration the final product three stars is all it would get.

Summary: A definite must have for DD collections
Review: OK, OK, I read all the Duran bashing on here. Fine. Like the smart reviewers said..this DVD is videos of their Greatest Hits. Sure, I would have liked to have the rest of the videos on DVD format...but those of us that ARE huge DD fans already have them...on Laserdisc or Video..so quit your whining! You want all the videos? That's what eBay is for.

I gave it a 5 because it is what it is, a DVD of their Greatest Hits. Pure and Simple.

One last thing..and an important one. Don't blame DD for the way it was put together or what's on it. They had nothing to do with it. It was all done by Capitol. DD aren't even on that label anymore (they may be again, but when this and the CD box set were released, DD had nothing to do with Capitol). That's why there aren't any new interviews or any of them talking about the videos. This was just Capitols way of making money once it was known that they were back together again.

Now quit your whinin' and search eBay!

Summary: Not all-inclusive, but sharp, clear picture!
Review: I hate that EMI didn't include ALL of Duran Duran's numerous videos over their 20+ year career, but the picture IS great on the videos on this DVD package. Sharp, clear, and detailed -- I see details I never noticed on my VHS copies of their video collections -- and I have watched those countless times, so I know them well!

The navigation IS a bit difficult on this package, and I agree with those who said that there should be clearer labeling on the case and a booklet about the videos and the band.

And finally, for that person whose "review" consisted of just bashing Duran Duran: two quotations come to mind. 1. There's a thin line between love and hate. 2. Methinks thou dost protest too much. I quote these because anyone who would go to the trouble to go onto Amazon, look up Duran Duran, and voice their hatred of Duran Duran must secretly like them. See, I have groups I hate, but I don't waste my time going on Amazon and trashing them. I have better things to do.

Summary: Will The Phoenix Rise Again?
Review: First off, I was ten when Duran Duran had their major breakthrough in the U.S. in 1983. I was not a Duranie, and it was not cool to like Duran Duran at that time (except for the girls). However, I changed my mind by 1993, buying my first Duran Duran cd due to the enormous success of "Ordinary World". Since then I have collected all of their cds and consider them to be a corner stone to popular music.

Watching Duran Duran's videos was a nostalgic experience, and it occurred to me that they really had been a great video band. Many of these videos still hold up very well today. One thing that struck me was that if Duran Duran was considered a 'boy band' back then, I would take them over NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees any day. Duran Duran seemed more mature than all of these current bands and they seemed to have better songwriting and loads more creativity and originality.

I agree with other reviewers that the price of this two dvd set is ridiculous. I also agree that all of the videos should have been included, I mean The Police, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Human League, Simple Minds and Bjork have all been able to do it, so why not Duran Duran? I do think all 21 videos on this set could have fit onto one dvd. I disagree with reviewers about the packaging concept. I felt less is more in that department, and I liked the plain white, minimalist approach to the design.

As far as the videos are concerned, I disagreed with the other reviewers who said the videos are poorly mastered. I felt they looked great. The audio is only 2.0 stereo, and it would have been nice if the songs had been remastered in 5.1 surround (The Police did it and it was fantastic!) However, even in 2.0 the sound still sounded great. There are 21 videos, mostly Duran Duran's most popular ones, which for me was quite satisfying because I did not own any of their videos before this purchase. I agree that space was wasted by having alternate versions of videos (I mean do we REALLY care to see the same video in a slightly altered manner??) They really should have tried to include all the videos instead.

The dvd-rom content was all right. I think the screen saver and wallpaper could have been so much more. The 30 minute interview was informative and satisfactory but it was only an audio interview. It would have been nice to see a 2003 video Q&A with all Duran Duran members. I don't think we needed a lyrics section, but it was okay to have it. I agree with other reviewers that it would have been very nice to have the band commentary on each one of their videos (Pet Shops Boys have done that).

So, hopefully Duran Duran will take matters into their own hands and create a more satisfying and complete videography to replace this one at some future date, but for now, this is the most comprehensive package we have of Duran Duran videos on dvd, and it's adequate, though not the 'greatest'.

Summary: All You Want Is...Electric Barbarella?
Review: When I at first watched the track "Planet Eart"...what a great video! There's fire etc...Girls on Film is an extremely naughty video! There's naked women. The chauffer is quite similar to Girl on Film except they are in some parking place this time while in "Girls on Film" they were in a studio. "Hugry Like the Wolf" is also a great video...it's quite funny..."SAve a Prayer" and Rio are quite basic stuff. In "Rio" there's a boat where they are. "IS There...", "New Moon...", and "Union..." are also great videos. "Wild Boys" is very rude video...and "A View..." is excellent...there's cartoon video cameras.

The second DVD starts with a couple of annoying songs but it's a good thing that "All she wants is" is a m*d video! It's a great video! Very modern! "Serious" (there's flames), Burning the Ground (medley track) are very good also! "Ordinary World" may be the best video by Duran Duran ever! There's a lady...the video "Come Undone" is very good! There's a woman under water. "Elecric Barbarella" is a funny video...there's a love doll who is very m?d!

Very good collection! There's also dicography! I love it!

Summary: Totally 80s Rewind!
Review: I thought this would be the ultimate 80s video collection from one of my favorite groups! I give the collection 4 stars purely for the videos themselves--boy did they take me back! I was a little surprised at the 'uncensored' and quite explicit version of Girls on Film and Chauffer. But otherwise the videos are great! I agree that the navigation is completely confusing! Took me a solid 30 mins to figure out what I was doing. I was also a bit peeved that I couldn't read the liner notes, as they were printed white on white. What's up with that? Overall it was a great D2 reunion. Can't wait to share it with friends!

Summary: Wonderful DVD
Review: This is DVD based on their Greatest album... It has interview easter-eggs and special version easter eggs... This DVD is ONLY DUran Duran and the videos are the videos from their Greatest CD and VHS... The people expecting to find Powerstation check back in late 2004 when they will be releasing the DVD of that... Those wanting Arcadia check back in 2005 when they will be releasing that one...

This is a DVD of Duran Duran taken from their album Greatest, that is why it is called greatest...

Please read above at all the features and videos and see if it is something you would like...

I will say the editing could be a bit better, and the easter-eggs are hard to find, but that is the Duran Duran way... You have to use your brain...

It is a must for any REAL Duran Duran fan!!!!

Summary: THIS COLLECTION SUCKS DONKEY STOOLS!!
Review: Here's why: the opening sequence to "A View To A Kill", has been removed! It is supposed to begin with Grace Jones leaping off the Eiffel Tower, but instead it starts instantly with the opening chords to the song itself - unacceptable! Also, no "Meet El Presidente", or "Violence Of Summer". Why didn't Duran Duran have the brains to make this an all-encompassing set to their great songs? Why not include all of their videos and hell, why not Arcadia and Power Station? I HATE this collection. "Rio" has NEVER looked worse - the colors are way oversaturated. Go back to the drawing board and TRY AGAIN DURAN DURAN!!

Summary: To the "Anti"- Duranies
Review: Hey morons that wrote bad reviews of Duran just because...get a life! This place is for people who are fans of the band and interested in the DVD. We don't care about your opinions!!
If they suck so bad how come all their shows on their current tour are selling out in 10 minutes??? It's too bad you don't have more to do with your life than to bash bands on Amazon!!!
Idiots!
