Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: The acoustic version of Big Love is worth the price of the DVD. It beats the Tango In The Night version hands down!
Rating: Summary: Fleetwood Mac in top form! Review: Many of the reviews here are critical of the sound quality of this DVD, but to my ears it sounds great in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. As for the performance....it's 5 star all the way. If you buy one concert DVD...buy this one!
Rating: Summary: Simply the Best Review: I have to laugh as I read some of the other reviews. People complain about the sound quality of their DVD. I approach this from another place. Gee, I have some barely audible tapes with Stevie's voice on it. These are some demos and outtakes that someone gave me. The sound is muffled, scratchy and overall terrible, but you know what? Even if I can barely hear Stevie's voice, I am thankful to have yet another example of her songwriting abilities and her great voice. I cherish the scratchy recordings on tape as much as the best CD. Sometimes the music just transcends the perceived quality. Sometimes the music itself is the quality and nothing else matters. The Dance, by the way, is totally awesome. Its about time the world got to hear Silver Springs!!
Rating: Summary: Great concert, disappointing sound quality Review: This is a great concert marred by one annoying flaw: The sound quality of this DVD is lacking given the potential of the medium. The concert itself is wonderful, and the band performs a compilation of their all-time greatest hits. It's just a shame the sound quality isn't better. The sound has a "compressed" feel to it and lacks the spaciousness and detail of well-recorded music on other DVD's I own. Sonically, this pales in comparison to the quality of the stunning Eagles: Hell Freezes Over in DTS. But even other live concerts I own on DD 5.1 sound better. This is about on the level of average CD quality. This is no fault of the musicians as their individual performances are all very good. Lindsey Buckingham, in particular, impresses with his showmanship and musical prowess on the guitar. Fortunately, once things get going, it's not hard to forget about the sonic shortcomings and just enjoy what is a great concert by a great band. I would still call this essential Mac.
Rating: Summary: Stellar Review: I almost died when I heard MTV announce that they would be broadcasting a Fleetwood Mac reunion. Needless to say, I was glued to the TV that night. My coffee table could've been on fire and I still wouldn't have moved. The band is in peak form. There's Christine, regally perched at her keys. The legendary Stevie, dancing like a Witch at Samhain, and Lindsey, arguably one of the best rock guitarists out there, John, singing for the first time (albeit backup), and Mick, with the wild faces. How many over 50 rock bands still have drum solos? That said, I must say that Stevie's voice sounds.. well, different. At parts, she kind of sounds like Marianne Faithfull doing a wicked impression of Stevie Nicks. Not that that's a bad thing! I worship Stevie, and Marianne! Stevie's voice, though the upper register is gone, definitely still retains great tonal quality, and it has a lovely vintage to it. So, in short, the Mac are back, and I couldn't be happier.
Rating: Summary: One of the best concert specials ever! Review: I've always been captivated by the magic that is Fleetwood Mac, but this concert simply blew me away!!!! I've never heard such musicianship, such showmanship, and so many memorable points in one show (the final number is simply amazing, but I won't march over anyone's feet and give it away...hehehe) It's too bad more of today's artists can't perform live(ie-Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope video) or provide this much of a show so sincerely and artfully. This is a MUST-HAVE for any Mac fan, or those who are interested in hearing them for the first time!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Band's energy and professionalism triumps over uneven audio Review: What's it like on DVD? In a word, uneven. I agree with some of the posts that the audio could have been better. This is the first digital recording where I have bypassed the "direct" mode, in order to lower the bass output, which was tubby and overwhelming. Having said that, I still really enjoyed this DVD. Stevie Nicks really shines. The group is a bit older, and their voices cannot sustain the high notes of 20 years ago, but they are performing drug-free, and the sound is tight and professional. Fleetwood Mac recorded some of the most infectious music of the 70's, and it is captured here in a live concert setting. I'm glad I bought it.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL Review: Thought I'd grown tired of these songs (and people) long ago.....wrong. Somehow the band manages to make their music sound as fresh and vital as ever. I've always thought Stevie Nicks was a bit overated, but after seeing this DVD, I figured out I was wrong about that too. She is simply awesome. Full of magical moments, this is the reason DVD was invented.
Rating: Summary: STILL THE GREATEST GROUP AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS Review: Are the 70 & 80's the best golden years for all the best rock groups in the world sparkling till today ????? But what about today's young groups, they are really shamed about! Anyway, Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest emerging to an outstanding concert performance which I have been expecting for years. It makes me some tears for Stevie and Lindsey on their plays on GO INSANE, LANDSLIDE, SILVER SPRINGS. After viewing this DVD, I realise and feel good that I can see the group has been getting better shape. Thank God I can own this DVD !!
Rating: Summary: Extremely poor production values and sound Review: The sound quality on the DVD is abominable. It does not come close to the James Taylor Live at the Beacon DVD. The sound is flat and restrained. What is worse is the poor use of the 5.1 format with percussion instruments such as marachas eminating from the fromt and rear speakers without any sense of spacial reality. A terrible effort which will stand as an embarrassment to the production staff and ultimately the band for allowing its release.
