Rating: Summary: It's good but... Review: Antonio Banderas really has to go, he is not good as Che, the producers could have easily gotten Mandy Pantikin (sp?) back again. He isn't really acting the part he's just singing. You can tell that he is lip syncing the songs! Madonna on the other hand is a really good Eva she looks just like her, and Jonathan Pryce is good as Juan Peron even thought I think his role could have been bigger. I don't like the way the movie changes the character of Eva the movie portrays Eva as a goody goody but in the play Eva is a prima donna and they should have left it that way
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: This version of Evita is the first I've seen, so I'm not qualified to pass too much judgement on this movie. I enjoyed it; the music is what held the movie together. Madonna and Antonio were brilliant. I'd suggest seeing the movie if you havn't seen the original plays.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully made, with wonderful work by the 3 principals. Review: I saw this movie when it first came out and loved it, and just saw it again on video. This is one of the most under-rated films of the decade. Hollywood just doesn't like Madonna, which resulted in this wonderfully-acted film being unfairly snubbed by critics and the Oscar establishment. Despite the presence of half the population of Argentina as extras, this is essentially an intimate story that rides on the performances of the three principals--Evita, Peron, and Che. Although Madonna's voice isn't quite up to some of the vocal challenges, her performance is otherwise on the mark. Antonio Banderas surprised me--his somewhat gritty vocal quality is totally appropriate to his character as a peasant revolutionary. Nobody smolders better. His feelings for Evita were intriguingly ambiguous; it was fascinating to watch him veer from hope to contempt to something close to sexual attraction. And Jonathan Pryce is one of the premier musical theater artists of this era. What he does with the rather underwritten part of Peron is a joy to see. Watch his performance of "She is a Diamond"--two minutes of subtle, superb acting with voice, face, body--absolutely wonderful. It seems that most of the naysayers saw the show on Broadway and find the movie a poor comparison. Each should be taken on their own terms. Patti LuPone is undoubtedly stronger vocally than Madonna, but you have to give the latter credit for taking on a huge challenge and (mostly) pulling it off. And I never thought Mandy Patinkin's light tenor was right for Che--Banderas, though not half the singer Patinkin is, has an earthy vocal quality that works better in this role. I recommend this movie highly for all lovers of musical theater.
Rating: Summary: A good movie, but not the truth. Review: Who was Eva PerĂ³n? I could spend a whole lot of time giving an answer. Many people have tried to answer the question. There has been books, movies, and songs to answer the question. Does "Evita" the movie answer the question? NO. The reason it does not is because with all the glitz, glamour, and hype surrounding the movie it is based on who Evita really was. The movie does not tell the real story. If it did, it would have been banned. To conclude, Evita is good clean fun, but just not the history it wishes to be.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Review: The movie was thought-provoking and inspirational. I especially enjoyed the intrigue surrounding an ambitious young woman during that era. The way she is portrayed as ambitious and at times insecure... Few women (in fiction or reality) have been at the center of such speculation. Regarding Madonna's performance, I only saw the character of Evita and was not consciously aware that I was even watching Madonna! Every detail was convincing. The music, the costumes, and the scenery were wonderful. And I absolutely love the soundtrack.
Rating: Summary: Madonna & Antonio; a wonderful couple... Review: ... in a wonderful movie. Madonna has the most amazing voice you've ever heard. I don't know anyone who can sing the way she does. She looks som much like Evita! In my eyes, nowone else can understand Evita as Madonna do. The disire of fame and fortune, they know it. The way they both struggeld against hard things. Madonna growing up without a mother and Evita without a father. I feel with them - totaly missunderstood and confused... Antonio is perfect for the role, and I really hope that he's own political opinions is like in the movie(s) (not only in Evita, also in "the house of the spirits, "of love and shadows") He sing and act great. I wish the best for Antonio Banderas and Madonna.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful movie Review: I can't understand some of you. Madonna was perfect for the role as Evita. The way she looks like her, sing with an amazing voice and know how to win the world - just like Evita did. Antonio Banderas has proved in other movies like "the House of the Spirits" and "of Love and Shadows" that this is the kind of roles he always should be doing. He is like an actor, not a singer, all thuogh he managed to sing just as well as he was supposed to. There is people who just don't get what the movie Evita is all about. I do and I promise you this: One day I'm going to play the role as Evita, if I ain't a president in Argentina or in anoher country. Madonna relised the point of the character so great as I can't beleive that any other person could do. Antonio Banderas will always be my favourite acter and he can both sing and act. Evita had to be the best movie ever with the stars and feeling in the wonderful movie.
Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece. One Of The Greatest Musicals Ever Made! Review: Alan Parker's "Evita" is an exhilirating, fun and entertaining yet powerful masterpiece. It stands out as one of the greatest musicals ever made and ever translated from stage to film. Maddona gives an incredible performance that's extremely moving and her voice just makes the music better. Antonio Banderas also gives a sly, fun performance. The scope of the film is immense and breathtaking. The cinematography is rich and artistic. Here, we get to know the main character, Eva Peron. The sets are lush and grand, everything here is wonderfully artistic. The screenplay by Alan Parker and Oliver Stone is a great work that's true to it's subject and handled with care. "Evita" is an entertaining, moving and powerful motion picture experience.
Rating: Summary: See it on stage instead!! (>_<) Review: What did they do to this MUSICAL!?! I know Madonna tried but I am sorry...She does not have the voice that is needed for Evita..I won't even make a comment about Antonio's singing *shudder* Andrew Lloyd Webber needs to get his head checked for allowing them to make such an atrocity of his play... I preformed the Mitress when I was 16 and I KNOW what the singing is supposed to sound like and the movie DID NOT come close!!
