Summary: Not the concert, but fantastic nonetheless.
Review: This is not the live concert of Dark Side of the Moon. However, I purchased it becuase I think that Dark Side is one of the best recordings ever, I am a huge Pink Floyd fan, and the documentary and making of the album are extremely interesting. There are several parts that I think are priceless. One example is the part where they explain how the song "The great gig in the sky" was recorded. How they hired this jaz singer to improvise over a song that Richard W. had writen on piano. She went into the studio, did her thing on one take, went out of the recording both saying that she was sorry and disapointed about the way it turned out while all the people present where just spechless because of the brilliant performance they had just witnesed. There are lots of stories like that on the DVD, sometimes several for each song. To me that alone is worth my money. However, there are several acustic performances of some of the songs which a think are fantastic. On a last note, and to me the icing on the cake was that besides having an excellent sound, the footage is presented in widescreen anamorphic. Whoever decided the latter has my most sincere gratitude. I cant believe how some artists, in 2003, are still releasing footage in 4:3 format. Anyway, great DVD. I wish they released similar versions for The Wall, Whish You Where Here, and others...PS. We are all still waiting for Pulse on DVD. Please dont make us wait much longer. And please, if possible, release it in widescreen. Thank you.

Review: This is a great doccy type dvd on the making
of TDSOTM with some great insights from cast &
crew. What I really liked was a snippet of Breathe played
live before 73,the audio quality is unbelievable,
please guys if there are to be no more Floyd tours
or new material,lets follow in the zep dvd,cd releases
footsteps and have a nice chunky live release/s
from 72/75/77 the archives must be there!! Im sure floyd kept careful records of many performances,
the Wall 80/81 sounded excellent theres gotta be great
earlier live stuff!!

Summary: Dark Side of the Moon
Review: The Dark Side of the Moon tour began in March 1973. www.hellspice.com/pfshows has a listing of Pink Floyd concert sites. The early Winterland shows were Oct/Nov 1967, Oct 15,1971 for Meddle and Sept 24,72.
Anyway, Dark Side of the Moon is still great and this documentary gives great background on the production of this historic album. I recommend it if your into Pink Floyd history.

Summary: The Greatest Rock Album, But...
Review: Dark Side of the Moon is one of the greatest rock albums ever made.It was a major turning point for Pink Floyd, one that would make them international stars to this day, and one that would eventually drift them apart years later.
I am a huge fan of PF, and it is with this subjectivity that I was disappointed with this documentary, the band members discussing the making of the album, through interviews and acoutsic reendition of some of DSOM tracks (Brain Damage and Breath).My problem with this film is the fact that it is too short, and it does have a VH1 feel to it,i.e very interesting to watch on TV, but needed more development for a DVD release.The bonus material was not necessarily 'bonus' as it could have easily been part of the original.I would have loved for this film to be a bonus material in itself for a live concert; that would have been a great addition to the concert, making it a much more complete DVD than this one.
As a fan I would not hesitate to buy this film nevertheless, but for really watching the essence of this great band, you should by all account not miss Live At Pompei,which is the best Floyd film, part documentary with interviews, part especially performed concert.(This film will be released in R2 soon, but no news yet for a R1 release!)
You will still enjoy DSOM DVD,listening to Waters, Gilmour Wright, Mason, and Parsons (a great musician in his own right) talk in '03 about their experiences making this album, but you will not help feeling something missing from it.

Summary: Making of 'Dark Side' DVD
Review: I thought this video was pretty amazing all in all. It's a rare thing to see all 4 members of Pink Floyd talking about their past with such gentleness and good feelings (BTW they are not in the same room together). Kind of makes you hope for a true Floyd reunion. But until then, this video must suffice. What you get is a pretty sweet track by track look into the making of a masterpiece. The weird thing is, they make it look soooo easy. Other than the deletion of 'Any Colour You Like' all the songs are covered in pretty interesting detail. I particularly liked when they discussed HOW they came up with certain songs or parts of melodies, sound effects, etc. Anyways, a must have for Floyd fans......

Review: This DVD really takes you into the heart and soul of the band as they worked on the breakthrough album Dark Side of the Moon. This is what experimental "Progressive" rock is really all about. Their creativity and state-of-minds are exposed here in a very insightful manner. Musically, one can gain an even greater appreciation of one of the greatest musical groups of all time. Gee Whiz...has it already been 30 years...(more than 10 years have got behind ME!) Buy this DVD its worth every penny!

Review: I like this movie. It's cool to see how all these songs were evolved and the section about "On The Run" is cool. But they never mentioned "Any Color You Like". I don't get it.

Summary: Look on the bright side
Review: Unlike the guy who saw the concert years before the album came out, I realized this was a behind-the-scenes, documentary-type look/listen of one of the greatest albums of all time. The main portion (50 minutes or so) is generally the band and crew members discussing aspects of each song, particular mixes or inspiration, or other tidbits. Some alternate versions and rehersal/performance clips are include as well.
The "bonus" part, about 30-odd minutes, is essentially shorter interview-type snips of the same style of material. Good stuff!

Review: If your looking for the actual concert of Dark Side
of the Moon, then keep on looking. This is a "Making Of"
type DVD with interviews and track overlays. This is more
of a History lesson than anything else. In my opinon, this
DVD "Stinks on Ice". I saw them live at Winterland in
San Francisco, Ca. back in 69-70 for the Dark Side tour. This is added in
response to it didn't come out until 1973. Have you ever
heard of "testing the waters" to see how it will be received. The Moody Blues first album sucked bad (Bye Bye
Blackbird)I am allowed to have an opinon, if you agree or not
I don't care. I wanted music, not jabbering, the Sun hasen't
risen or set it their rear ends. Pink Floyd is not the be all,
end all. They are good, but that all they are.
