Summary: More Earls Court, less MSG footage...essential nonetheless
Review: This is an amazing DVD. The first disc captures them when they had a lot to prove, were lean and hungry, and it shows. This was around the time they did their first American tours, and anyone who saw them around that time said that "Song Remains the Same" did not do them justice as a band. This proves their case. More so the 4 song, 20 minute set they did for TV.

The Earls Court footage is also quite a find. Hopefully Page can put a complete show just of this concert alone. It sounds great, as well as some great closeups of the band members.

The MSG footage should have been saved for a "Song Remains the Same" Special Edition DVD. That DVD needs a proper makeover. Maybe in 3 years when the film was released in 76 they'll do it.

The Knebworth footage was decent enough, but it's not one of their better performances. But considering Plant lost his son in a tragedy, it's a miracle that he evewanted to do music again.

Overall, it's a DVD which is just a great band in its element without the mythic BS. The one you could show future generations who this band truly was. It's also one that gives you a reason to listen to their music again, even after it's been overplayed on the radio.

Summary: The Best of the Best
Review: Long ago and far away (well it was 1972 to be precise) the Zep came to Australia and played to a massive audience in Sydney. It was an outdoor gig but I still remember it. I think it was my first genuine rock gig. Seeing this DVD now brings the group alive again and for this every viewer should be grateful. The quality of this DVD is wonderful-the other reviewers tell you that and they're right. But you will take from this series of concert performances what you bring to them. If you never really GOT Led Zeppelin but you have a genuinely open mind (and ears)this DVD will win you over. If you were a fan to begin with then you'll be knocked out. If you never liked them and your mind is still closed...well this DVD won't help you! The high point? For this viewer it is the almost superhuman thrust and energy of "Trampled Underfoot". Jesus! They attack the song as if they'll never play it or any other music ever again. Which in an odd sort of way is what all the best bands do. Miss this DVD at your peril. It shows you greatness of a kind we are not likely to see again.

Summary: Simply a must-have DVD
Review: In the year 3003, (if we haven't blown ourselves up or been rounded up and sold as pets on the Galactic Live Commodities Market,) someone looking up the phrase "Rock and Roll" in their supercomputer the size of a sugar cube will get something like this on their holoscreen:

"Rock and Roll - a late 20th century phrase describing music created by small groups of mostly male musicians, played on percussive and amplified-electric instruments with vocals, and the lifestyle which accompanied that music, characterized by an idealistic belief in world peace, and in love shared freely and without commitment. Examples of rock and roll bands: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin."

Searching further, the student of late 20th century music will likely be able to download and experience the material on this DVD - it's so good, that it's going to become part of the planet's cultural heritage. This review, however, will likely be lost to obscurity sometime in the next 1000 years, so read it now while there's still time.

Here it is in a nutshell - this two DVD set gives Led Zeppelin fans everything we've ever wanted and more. The sound, the images, the production, the choices made, are all nearly perfect. The material is pure live performance - no "creative content" or "dramatic embellishment" of any kind - just film, film, film of rock, rock, rock being played live, live, live. (If only some of our other great heritage bands would take a hint and give us more DVD's full of the same type of footage!)

The second disk in this two disk set would be the greatest rock and roll you ever saw - if it weren't for the first disk. I am a hardened, veteran, tough-to-please lover of classic rock DVD, and I can say that, without any exception whatsoever, disk one of this set is THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL FOOTAGE OF ALL TIME.

I know, Muhammed Ali said something like that about himself - but he backed it up with his fists against Sonny and George, and Led Zeppelin will back it up as well on Disk 1. Pop disk 1 in your DVD player, crank up the surround sound system, and if you are a real music fan, a half-hour later you'll be sitting there with an untouched beer on your coffee table, your jaw hanging slack, your phone ringing and you not getting up to answer it because that would mean pausing this and you aren't about to do that, no matter who it is on the line.

It's actually quite possible that Led Zeppelin never sounded as good on their studio albums, either technically or otherwise, as they do on Disk 1 of this set, in the Royal Albert Hall. The sound is perfect, the video is perfect, and the performance is beyond perfection, into the realm of the supernatural.

Enjoy. Easily worth twice as much as it's selling for.

Summary: Loved the early early Royal Albert Hall footage
Review: Amazing and they were a very tight, explosive band - in the early days. The later footage is excellent, of course. But I prefer the early footage. They weren't mega rock stars yet, just very talented musicians who really clicked.

The evidence of greatness is hear on this 2-disc set for all to see, Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever. They sound as good, if not better, live than recorded. And, their stage presence and fellowship shows how music can overshadow image. Now that shows how powerful and great a band can be.The Beatles were the first , the Stones lasted the longest , but Led Zeppelin shows everyone on this DVD that they rocked best.

Summary: Life-Changing
Review: Never have I been happier about having bought something than about this DVD. I've been a big fan of Led Zeppelin for a while now, and I already knew that Page, Plant, and Bonham were the masters of their respective trades, but seeing these live performances took my respect for them to a whole new level. The performance at Knebworth in 1979 is by far my favorite; in my mind, it shows decisively that Zeppelin were still on their way up when Bonzo's death tragically brought the magic to an end. The "funky" version of "Whole Lotta Love" completely blew me away, lodged itself in my head for days and put a spring (maybe even a swagger) in my step. Jimmy Page's playing in "Achilles' Last Stand" is simply the most expressive playing of any instrument I've ever seen. It's clear that the man had absolutely no reason to pay any heed to technique, he just played whatever he wanted. I bought the DVD and the three-disk set the day they came out last summer. What are you waiting for?

Summary: I can't quit you baby
Review: Mesmerizing! I love the footage and how it is edited together. There is even footage, on several songs, of Jimmy Page putting a spell on the audience. I think the spell still works, because I can not quit watching. I hope the producers can find more concert footage to create another DVD. If you want to feel what it was like to see Led, then get this DVD. You will have no regrets.

Summary: Finally
Review: Easily the best live music DVD I own. Since I was not lucky enough to see them in person, this proves that they are definitely one of the best rock and roll bands ever. Sure, some of the footage has been edited, but that can be overlooked as the sound is simply amazing. You can't go wrong with over 5 hours of footage and music spanning their career...

Summary: Led Zeppelin!!! How Sweet It Is!!!
Review: Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band ever. Period. This 2-DVD set proves it, without a doubt! It's historical yet it seems like a current event. Jimmy Page, Dick Carruthers and Kevin Shirley all did a masterful job restoring the soundtracks and fluidly matching them up with the film clips. Truly a labor of love! DVD #1, At The Royal Albert Hall, captures Led Zep at their rawest! Plant's voice is booming and Page wails on the axe! Check out Bonzo during his Moby Dick drum solo. His wrists are as thick as logs! He just bangs away effortlessly! Unbelievably, this is just the opening salvo. On to DVD #2, Madison Square Garden and outstanding performances of Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop and The Ocean. Next is 1975 and Earls Court, and in my opinion, the best part of this DVD package. The acoustic set of Going To California, That's The Way and Bron Yr Aur Stomp is truly magical! This was the original "unplugged", a full 15+ years before MTV's idea! At this particular concert, Led Zep's performance of Stairway To Heaven is the best I've seen or heard in all my years of being a fan! Watching Page play that double-necked guitar, solely created for the purpose of playing their masterpiece live, is a life altering experience! :) Next is 1979 and Knebworth, England. The footage from these concerts turned out to be Led Zep's final performances but the band was still bringing their "A" game. Nobody's Fault But Mine just plain rocks the house! This DVD set, with all the extras, is definitely a must have. If you want a historical perspective documenting the purest form of rock and roll, this Led Zeppelin DVD is it! Baby Boomers, buy it, then make your Generation X, Y or Z kid watch it! They'll never go back to the [stuff] that's out there now, I promise!

Summary: Geat from beginning to end!
Review: With this release, it makes me impatient to see the Who's fully restored DVD, the Kids Are Alright, due out Sept. 30th. If its as good as this it will be incredible. Zep has never been my fvorite band, but this DVD almost convinced me otherwise. They play like they are the ONLY rock band that matters. We know it aint exactly true, but it is mind blowing stuff. Kudos to bands that actually care enough to release things for the fans of this quality. Hopefully the Stones are next . . .
