Summary: BEST LIVE DVD EVER!
Review: like oh my jesus. this dvd is a must for anyone. i mean anyone. the quality of the sound, picture, just everything is great. watching the band progress from how they performed when they were just starting out is insane and still having that great energy when their time was up making music is just unbelievable. watching jimmy page do his song "White Summer" is the most amazing thing in the world. it shows off why hes such a great guitarist till this date. the solo of moby dick from John Bonham on the drums is a lesson to all drummers that you dont have to sound heavy just know your equipment well and you can outshine everyone else by your extraordinary skills at being the best at what you are. same goes for any instrument. anyone can add effects and the whole get up to make them sound better but when you sit there and just explode out with it by using the basics it shows how much better you are at it then relying on other things to make you the best. Robert plant never loses his great voice it just seems to get better more or less through all the concerts. still rocking out as always. John paul jones is still being all like "yeah im here im rockin" vibe. this has everything youd ever want from a dvd of your favorite band live. its just perfect. a must for EVERYONE. BUY IT NOW! ...

Summary: I've actually seen it, and it's fantastic!
Review: If you've been waiting for a review by someone who has actually seen this DVD, here it is. After listening to poor-quality bootleg recordings of some of these shows, it's great to finally hear the real deal. Jimmy Page really delivered on the audio, and the video restoration, which reportedly took months of painstaking frame-by-frame work, is breathtaking.

The Albert Hall '70 video is especially surprising, since it is so old. It's clear as a bell, and the sound (other than Robert being very slightly distorted) is stunning. The performance is very raw and spontaneous and really sums up what Zeppelin sounded like in the early years.

The Danish TV broadcast from '69 is somewhat legendary, as it's been broadcast so few times. It's black and white, but very clear. Plant's voice is fairly well shot, but the performance is still strong and the band is obviously having a great time. Watch out for a mis-cue near the end of How Many More Times--these guys were close to the edge much of the time, and it shows here!

You get to see more than one version of Communication Breakdown and Dazed and Confused among the different segments, but you also get to see how these songs evolved as time passed.

The New York '73 footage consists of 4 tunes, two of which appeared on the Song Remains movie. However, the soundtrack has been remastered, and the video has been restored with some different angles, so you're not getting a bunch of repeats. The Ocean is a highlight of this segment--I don't see why they left this off the original. Bonzo counts it off like on the album, and sings harmony on the la-la section. By the way, Bonzo's playing throughout this package is jaw-dropping. After eleven years of *that*, how could anyone else replace him?

Earl's Court '75: this is the one everybody talks about, and it's killer. My understanding is that all five nights were filmed, but much of the footage was unusable. This segment consists of some acoustic numbers which still contained a great deal of spontaneity, as well as stunning versions of electric numbers. I'm a little surprised so few tunes from these concerts were used. The footage is very close-up and intimate, and it's not obvious how big the room is.

Knebworth '79: this section was a real revelation for me. I'd heard an audience bootleg and seen some clips, and it was not very impressive-sounding. With a real soundtrack, it stands up with anything else on this DVD. The epic Presence material contains some amazing guitar playing from Page, and is one more highlight of many on this package. In the Evening was a stinker on the bootleg, but it really rocks now--amazing what a professional mix will do! Surprisingly, even though Ten Years Gone was broadcast on MTV in 1990, no performance of this tune was included on this set. Page and Plant are clearly having a blast on this segment.

The extras are also well worth seeing, and most Zep fans would gladly pay the asking price for those alone. Each menu page contains bits of priceless footage and/or audio that, while not quite as stellar as the main feature, is still top-notch.

It may sound petty to complain about 5 hours of amazing material not being enough, but it's too bad this set has to end. This music is as good as it gets. Five stars with room to spare!

Summary: 5 stars is not enough
Review: I have yet to watch this DVD from beginning to end. What I have seen is just awesome. I have made it as far as Moby Dick on disc 1 and cannot stop watching Bonzo at his finest. I have goose bumps just thinking about it. My wife who has watched it with me and knows not a lot about drums already knows that it is awe inspiring.
How many more times is equally as awesome as Moby Dick.

The only thing about this DVD is it makes me wish I was my age now in the 70's because there is nothing like seeing Zep live, but this is the closest I will ever come. The sound is great, the video is great, and Zep is of course Zep.

If you are a Zeppelin fan of any kind get this DVD now!

Summary: dissapointing compared to the song remains the same
Review: As a zepp fan who has collected audio bootlegs over the years I must say that this is a dissapointing dvd. When you read the liner notes you will see they didn't have the luxury of choosing the best of what they had, rather what barely survived. The song remains the same is a better concert video and the highlight of the dvd is the outake of the ocean from song. Song is tighter and has less of plant ruining the song with add lib gibberish. Don't get your hopes too high, or rather wait and buy it next week in a used cd store.

Summary: The NYC premier
Review: I had the rare privilage of being at the premier of the dvd at loews theater in NYC last night and the footage was beyond words. Being to young to have seen the band perform together, (i saw Plant open for the who this summer at Madison Square Garden though)this footage is the closest thing i have to knowing the brilliance that is Led Zeppelin. To make things even better, the band held a VIP party after the screening to sign autographs( I got Plant and Jonesy, Page came and went to fast) and greet old friends and industry people. I can now say I talked and took pictures with living legends. All in all the band was brilliant then and they are still larger than life now. The DVD is a must have whether you saw them perform back in the day of have never seen them perform but wish you could have. I hope the rumors are true and they decide to tour within the next few years.

Summary: AMAZING
Review: I am so excited about this new release. EXCELLENT concert footage, interesting artistic film techniqes. It really makes you feel like you were right there at the show. Through the two discs you watch the band grow and change, and hear improvisations and altered versions of the songs we all love. Any Zeppelin fan NEEDS this!!!

Summary: This Is It
Review: This is the one thing you would give to anyone who didn't know Zeppelin or didn't know why they were great. From the very first song on disc 1, it is clear this is a band in their prime, more powerful than anything that's ever been heard before. Highlights from disc 1 : White Summer, Page sitting on a chair and Bonham listening in the backround with his eyes closed. Moby Dick : blows the Song Remains The Same version out of the water, I've been a Zeppelin fan for years and years and I didn't realize Bonham was that good, and I always thought he was the greatest drummer ever! I would put his work on that solo against anything any drum solo any drummer has ever done. How Many More Times : awesome. the breakdown in the middle of the song, the crowd comes alive and repeat every grunt and hiss Plant makes. Dead silence except for him and the crowd of thousands hanging on his every breath. Great Stuff.
Disc Two only gets better. Highlights : John Bonham singing harmonies in The Ocean and Bron Yr Aur Stomp! The acoustic set is for me the peak of the whole thing. John Paul Jones works the mandolin while Jimmy Page sways the the sweet sounds of Going To California and That's The Way. absolutely beautiful stuff. Which makes the next song, In MY Time Of Dying (perhaps their heaviest song ever) all that more awesome, the slide solo on that song is amazing. I personally liked the Madison Square Garden outakes if only to hear The Ocean and Misty Mountain Hop.
Finally Knebworth, which proves that they were still the best band around, they might have been overblown and tired of the whole thing by then, but when you hear Achilles Last Stand or Nobody's Fault But Mine, you realize that nobody can touch this band. Plant's voice is great here especially on Achilles, he manages to get every part in there, since the recorded version had about ten different voices.
In conclusion, this is the definitive Zeppelin experience, it is so much better the SRTS it's sad. Get it at all costs.

Summary: Led Zeppelin at its best
Review: What a stellar collection of performances for this group. I have never seen Jimmy Page in motion like this before. I was expecting the best when purchasing this DVD and what I got was the best. There is no way that Zeppelin could top this...except...maybe...a tour?

Summary: Finally! Classic Zep in all its glory!!!
Review: I highly recommend this set to anyone with a DVD player and who is a Zeppelin fan!

My favorite section is the "black and white footage" of them performing such classic songs as How Many More Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, and Communication Breakdown. I especially like the How many More Times on this performance. I like when Robert introduces each member of the band and when he gets to Jimmy Page, Jimmy starts doing the riff to "Smokestack Lightnin'".

The other material is superb as well. Love the acoustic set of Earl's Court, and the Kashmir from "Knebworth".

Only negative I have so far for this set is that they should have left in the "Black Mountainside" intro. that goes into Kashmir on the Knebworth show. But it still is excellent!

What I like to do is watch it all in order (pretty much).

The RAH footage is superb as well. Highlights: White Summer/Black Mountainside and the Moby Dick.

It does look to me that there is still unsynched footage in the MSG show. But the color is brilliant/vibrant and the performance spectacular! Love The Ocean. Bonzo should have sung more with the band!

Bottom line: Zep fans rejoice! Because this video is the best that Zep has to offer and Page & Co. delivers us the goods for sure! A+++

Summary: Better than nothing
Review: Granted, when you're ahead of your time it's not surprising that a band like Led Zeppelin lept ahead of the technology of the times in terms of being able to capture their live show for posterity. These guys wrote the blueprint that a whole lot of people attempt to follow to this very day, and I'd bet all of it was analog.

To give an accurate review of this set, one has to be able to understand what it was that made Led Zeppelin what it was they were. This band had a range that has never been equaled, only approached maybe by The Who. Zep could shake your liver with sonic bombast, and then hold you spellbound with delicate, intricate accoustic beauty. Simply put, of their genre, they were the best, and still are.

"The Song Remains The Same" was an ego-indulging disappointment, and for anyone who had ever witnessed Led Zeppelin at their thunderous zenith, this document of the group was roundly dismissed.

What makes this 2-disc set worth the money is the Earl's Court performance of 1975. This new, digitally mastered material is to Zeppelin fans what a drink of water is to someone who has been lost in the desert for a week.

To a hard core Zep fan, trying to capture in it's true essence what a Zep performance was, will always be a daunting task, given that the group disbanded almost 25 years ago. Then again, it's because of the time factor that now we can look back at what the band gave to us and how it has stood the test of time and realize how special it was.

If you're in your twenties and want to know what all the fuss was about, it's a decent chronicle and a place to begin your education. If you're in you're forties and have experienced Led Zeppelin personally, NOTHING can replace being in the 10th row.

What is kind of troubling is that this was the best Jimmy could come up with. We all have suspected that he has horded away in the vaults all the recordings and filmings of the band. If this is truly the cream of the crop of what exists, it is truly a shame.

Better get all that 16mm footage converted to digital, Pagey...before it crumbles into dust and floats away!
