Returning to his Romanian homeland and Gypsy roots, internationally known pan flutist Damian gives us Damian: In Concert from Bucharest, a sweeping outdoor concert framed by the impressive 7,000-room Palatul Parlamentului (also available on CD). Accompanied by an orchestra, band, and choir, he performs 19 songs, including the sad and ethereal "Haunting Eyes," the swinging "Lover's Rhapsody," and "Ederlazi," a Gypsy celebration devoted "to life, to happiness, and to joy." On three songs he is accompanied by the divine vocals of Jennifer Crestol; "Love Is All We Know" is an especially lovely duet. Damian dedicates "12/21/89" to the young men and women who died on that particularly ugly day during the Romanian revolution.
