Summary: SON DVD playlist inaccuracy?
Review: Song #12 is identified on the box, liner notes, song index and actual screen intro as AYGWM?, but appears to be Into the Dream (from ID). Pat's playing his 42-string pikasso, aided only by a brief trumpet solo which fades the ending. TRULY disappointed in the error, as AYGWM is a concert staple and a wonderful tune live, at least as it was played on a majority of the tour.

Summary: simply super fantastic
Review: Thank you Pat Metheny & band for sharing your spirit and mastery. Witnessing you live in concert in Vancouver, BC Canada in 2003 and 2005 has been a treat, yet watching you even closer on this outstanding concert DVD has been a delight, also.

I had considered purchasing this DVD for a while, but the negative editorial from Sam G had deterred me. Thankfully, my lovely wife gave me the "Speaking of Now" DVD for my birthday March 4. Here's a little joke, and it's true: we just saw Pat in Vancouver Feb 25 performing his new album "The Way Up" (fabuloso!). Well, I had already purchased the tickets last November. At the beginning of February I told my wife that I was considering going to the US for a business related workshop Feb 25/26, when she replied: "Colin, don't you know that GOD is in Vancouver February 25th playing his guitar?" Well, if you don't have a chance witnessing God playing his guitar live in concert for you (and thousands others), this live DVD maybe just the next best thing. Enjoy!

Summary: One of the best sounds on DVD I've ever heard
Review: The DTS sound encoding is superb. Lyle May's piano solos on "Proof" and "A Place in The World" are enough to assure an excellent musical program.

Summary: Strange Audience!
Review: The group is great as always, especially the section between MAP OF THE WORLD and IN HER FAMILY, when Lyle shines with his improvisation!!! BUT, WHAT`S UP WITH THE CROWD?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I`ve been to some Pat`s and PMG`s concerts in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia and the crowd was wild! The atmosphere on this conccert is too sterile. Even at the and (SONG FOR BILBAO) the crowd sits at their seats!! Strange! Anyway, a great dvd and concert, but a dead crowd!!!

Summary: Still Recovering
Review: This is the first live music DVD I ever purchased. It is in large part due to the reviews here, but also to my familiarity with the Pat Metheny Group through the years. Not exactly a purist, but I've known the group to be simply outstanding in every case where I've purchased their music.

I was able to view this DVD on a basic set up, with some serious amplification to the speakers but little in the way of video or audio enhancement. I am still recovering from the experience of watching this concert. The musicianship is nothing short of incredible. The dynamics range from whisper to roar and vice versa. (My kids at one point asked me to turn it down. Lo and behold, the band did it for me as if they were listening. Ha!)

Time after time I expressed disbelief at the overall quality of performance and sound. My favorite parts are those where Lyle Mays is able quietly to lay down some of the most beautiful, "simple" piano solos. Being a drummer by trade I was also floored by Antonio Sanchez's solos which demonstrate a remarkable (to say the least!) independence between limbs.

The beauty of having such a DVD is that one can enjoy the performance over again if one chooses, and do so without concern for tight seating, refreshment, and other necessities that make attendance at a live concert an inconvenience. Really. It's less than the price of a ticket to the real McCoy. I can't wait till I can see this on a real home theatre set up.

The style of music may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I know a few people to whom I would recommend this DVD without reservation. Absolutlely.

Summary: Great DVD! &That IS "Are you going with me" - Are you deaf??
Review: What a gift from Pat and the band - this is the best band in the world right now with the addition of Antonio Sanchez, and Metheny himself after a few challenges from the likes of Scofield and Frisell has left them in the dust with his new trio and this amazing version of the PMG. And Vu is destined to great things under the Metheny/Mays tutorship, just watch. I was glad to be spared Richard Bona's blatant (and not too good) Jaco Pastorius imatation, that was the only real blemish on the live show that I saw and I am glad that they left it off.

To the person who claims that track 12 is a listing mistake, I can only deduce that you are deaf and have never actually listened to the MELODY of Are You Going With Me. (It is like all the idiots that can't seem to hear the melody of Pat's brilliant new version of Last Train Home). People like that who not only can't hear but then get all indignant about it are the kind of people that appear to have no experience listening to jazz and are applying some other kind of background to Metheny's work - and certainly are unqualified to be commenting on it. It is sad and I hope Pat never gets discouraged by the fact that there are people listening to him who can't even identify the melody to his most famous tunes unless played in the exact arrangment that appears on the original. Cuong's phrasing and interpretation of the AYGWM melody could not be more clear - or beautiful; a highlight of this set. And there are at least two other video versions of the "straight" version of this elsewhere - so glad they included this one like this.

LIsten up, people!!!! This is the band of our time at their very best.

Summary: Wow!
Review: Why or how would a respectful audience, "be part of the problem" is beyond me, but that is what the lead-in to the DVD states. Bull Roar! The audience is from a respectful society and they are paying the Matheny Group the highest praise, listening to the work and artistry of Pat Matheny and friends.

What a great DVD, the sound is great... the visuals are wonderful, and as a musician I really dig watching masters of the craft, putting out totally inovative material. The musicianship is mezmorizing.

Just wonderful, absolutely wonderful.
