Summary: Saw the concert... this doesn't remind me of it.
Review: I went to one of the concerts on this tour, and it was incredible. I was blown away by the power and intensity that Queensryche produced that night.

The DVD, quite simply, doesn't convey the true power of the concert. For example, during the concert, there was a screen at the back of the stage with videos that helped explain the song or had other cool effects (for one song, everything was silent while we watched a bomb's-eye view of a city - the city just kept getting larger and larger, then suddenly we were hit with a wall of sound as the band started playing when the bomb "impacted" - the effect was great, but the DVD doesn't capture this at all). The video is just the band playing, and as others have mentioned it's "fade in - play the song - fade to black" - all of the continuity of the concert was lost.

I have no problem with them doing it on a low budget, and I'm kind of glad that they showed it could be done that way. But they could've gotten the whole concert (and I don't necessarily mean all the songs, although that would've been nice, too - I mean, everything else that was going on onstage). And I really think it should've been in color. Reserve the black-and-white for artsy videos; I was looking for a memoir of the concert.

The Operation: Livecrime DVD made me feel like I missed an excellent concert. This DVD made me feel like I missed a mediocre concert...but it was a GREAT concert.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I'm a long time QR fan and have purchased all their CDs and DVDs and seen them live three times. Although I've been disappointed in a couple of their CD releases ("Hear in the Now Frontier" and "Q2K"), their latest release "Tribe" was an improvement. So I was looking forward to this release focusing on "Tribe." However, the bottom line is, the band and producers cut too many corners to make this a good DVD release.

I agree with other reviewers that visually the concert is a real disappointment. While one could argue the filming and sepia-tone is "artistic," I argue it is just cheap and a quick way to make a buck. The audio is also pretty pathetic. To release a concert DVD in this day and age without 5.1 surround is inexcusable. The extras on this disc also suck, a couple crummy, disorganized interviews with Geoff Tate that lack any substance.

The only saving grace of the disc is the song selection. While QR certainly have stronger material than that found on "Tribe," it is nice to see them playing their newer material. Personally, though I'm a huge Dream Theater fan, I'm not really interested in seeing them do cover versions, same goes for QR, so I really wasn't too impressed by the DVDs closers where the bands collaborate on "Comfortably Numb" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."

In conclusion, unless you're a hardcore QR completist, I'd give this DVD a pass.

Summary: I've not seen this, but I'll share my thoughts anyway!
Review: I've not seen this DVD, but judging from most of the reviews, I'm not going to make it a priority! Anyway, I saw QR live on this tour, and there is no way a black and white DVD will do the show justice! I applaud QR for having the guts to tour with one of the best progmetal bands in the world, Dream Theater! If that's not enough, they've did a short leg of this years tour with Symphony X...man these guys are brave! With that being said, I have one question for the Ryche boys. How can you tour with both Dream Theater and Symphony X, and not feel ashamed of your current output? If you don't know who Symphony X is, do yourself a favor and check out this band...they'll blow you away!

Summary: COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH, MUCH BETTER.
Review: It's amazing. Queensryche is such a great band, and perhaps because of the limited budget this DVD kinda sucks. Tate's vocals are way too processed, it seems they turned on the 70's 'Dolby noise reduction' button and every single word he sings sounds squashed (too much compression maybe) and without dinamics. The drums sound amazing thouugh and I believe Rockenfield's Paiste Cymbals raise the bar even more with that wonderful crisp ride cymbal sound. The Guitars sound good too and bass is ok.

The show itself (in black and white - lame!) is good, I enjoyed it, but if only production would have been more careful this DVD would be a hit. Come on guys, enough with the slow-mo cameras and the matte finish! This is 2004. Oh well, I will probably sellthis DVD on eBay in a couple of weeks. The Dream Theater appearence at the end is awesome though.

Summary: Excellent performance
Review: It's true that the black & white picture was a poor judgment call by the band and producers of this dvd. Now that aside, this is one of the best Queensryche performances I've seen. The band plays flawlessly and Geoff Tate sounds much better in here than on the bands previous dvd concert "Live Evolution". The only thing I didn't like, in addition to the black & white, was the fact that "My global mind" and "Roads to Madness" were unplugged versions. Still a very good concert and the jam with Dream Theater at the end of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" and the Who's "Won't get fooled again" are quite interesting. Don't be biased not to purchase this item on the account of the black and white image because it's a great concert and the songs from the "Tribe" album sound impressive live.

Summary: The Real Art of Live is Seeing them Live!!
Review: Let's just say this is a good DVD. Not much more. I saw two of their shows in April of '04 and those shows should have been recorded for this DVD. Queensryche is an amazing band to see live, and I believe that is why they are still around today. They are as good as they were today as to 1988. This DVD was recorded by their own crew and not done professionally (Geoff admits this in the interview). They filmed this DVD as cheap as they could and used today's technology to edit and prepare it for DVD. There is no 5.1 sound and it is filmed in various cities in black and white. Queensryche is probably one of the best bands to see live ever! The effort the five members put into their shows is amazing. I wish they would put the effort into the filming like they did with their recent tour. I love this band and the members. I just wished they filmed this recent tour with Pamela Moore. She was great and missed by fans for 13 years. Overall, if you are a die-hard fan, buy this if not, rent it.

Summary: EAR CANDY
Review: LOOK I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. 90% OF ANY DVD CONCERT EXPERIENCE IS THE SOUND. YES THIS VIDEO LACKS HIGH DEF COLOR, BUT THE SOUND IS FANTASTIC, IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SET-UP. THEATRE SOUND SYSTEMS ARE FOR MOVIES AT BEST. I GOT ME A MEDIOCRE RADIO SHACK RECEIVER. THE MAGIC IS ALL IN THE SPEAKERS. YOU NEED BIG SPEAKERS TO LISTEN TO THIS DVD PROPERLY, LIKE A PAIR OF 200 WATT RATED KLIPSCH KLN30'S, AND A 400 WATT POWERED JBL SUB WOOFER. YOU HAVE TO FEEL THE SOUND IN ORDER TO ENJOY THE SOUND, UNLESS YOU ARE INTO ELEVATOR MUSIC. WITH THE RIGHT SPEAKERS, SIGN OF THE TIMES, DELLA BROWN, AND THE GREAT DIVIDE WILL KNOCK YOU OFF YOUR COUCH INTO ANOTHER DIMENSION..BELIEVE ME....

Summary: Moving forward
Review: Many people have criticized Queensryche over the years for drifting away from their "trademark" sound if you will. Gone are the "Eyes of a Stranger"s, the "I Don't Believe in Love"s, or even a personal favorite "Gonna Get Close to You (freaking cool video)", and in their place, although they haven't garnered as much critical and commercial success as they did with "Empire" and "Operation: Mindcrime", Queensryche has always continued to push the boundaries of what they can do musically, and for that I applaud them. Songs like "Someone Else?", "The Voice Inside", and even more recently "Losing Myself" and "Open" have shown that they still have a few good tricks up their sleeve. Granted this DVD doesn't contain a lot of the hits (almost all of them), but Live Evolution does and what would be the purpose of releasing another "Greatest Hits" type DVD. Instead, we find a band actually promoting their newest album by playing more than one or two tracks off it live. Here on this DVD, we find 6 of 10 tracks from Tribe, mixed in some of their older material. Where has the day gone when bands put out a new album and primarily play their newer material live. If you ask me, the day has long since past. I applaud them for saying "this is Queensryche of today, not of yesterday."

Summary: Bottom line: the music rocks!!!
Review: OK, it's in black & white and color would have looked much cooler since they have such a great stage show. But it's actually in a more vintage 30s looking sepia-toned print. After a while this retro look is actually rather cool. The important thing is the music and it rocks! You get most of "Tribe" live with choice other faves and some cool covers with Dream Theater.

Yeah, it could have been color, 5.1, and a bazillion special features, but the music still rocks. If you don't want to watch it, just burn a CD of the music or just listen to the DVD. Much like Kelly Gray did on "Live Evolution", new guitarist Mike Stone adds a ballsier touch to the tunes - sorry, but they don't miss Chris DeGarmo. Queensryche still rules.
