Summary: Metallica in Ft Worth, TX - Raw, energetic, powerful
Review: This double DVD set was recorded during a live performance in FT Worth, Texas and contains a fabulous set of songs from most of Metallica's released albums up to Re-load. The performance took place on their newly designed stage and the lighting effects were captured well. The camera spends equal time on all the members of the group and there is significant audience interaction. Audio and video are above average for a live performance. If you like hard rock and metal this DVD is essential. It captures one of the most creative, enduring, and significant bands of our times. This DVD includes interviews, documentary, and behind-the scenes footage as well as different camera angles on certain songs. Since the DVD is not censored you can experience the "raw" Hetfield. But then I suspect those easily offended would in all likelihood not listen to Metallica - "So What?"

Summary: "Metallica Delivers a Great Sounding Set in Texas"
Review: This DVD of a "Summer 1997" performance by Metallica, was released in December 1998, some 5 years ago. I own the VHS format, which is nothing, but the 2 hour concert shown in it's entirety. Since this tape captutes the "Load" tour, it features some of that album's core singles, but the guys of Metallica don't shy away from playing selections from their 1980's albums, as well as a few numbers from "The Black Album (1991)."
The opener "So What", is a cover song originally recorded in 1981 by some British Heavy Metal group. The heavy rocker "Creeping Death (from "Ride the Lightning")" follows.
Most if not all of this video consists of tracks off of 1984's
"Ride the Lightning", "Metallica (1991)", and the under-rated "Load (1996)." "Master of Puppets (1986)" is the only track off of that same album, and "One" is the only composition taken from "...And Justice for All (1988)." Of course "Last Caress", "Am I Evil?", and "Seek & Destroy" are performed as encores. I especially dig the "Kill 'Em All/Ride the Lightning" medley, that consists of "Fight Fire with Fire (1984)", and Metallica's first song "Hit the Lights (1981)." This video is a great buy, and the DVD format must be of greater quality, but hey VHS does the trick for me. Fans of early Metallica, the "Black album", and the singles released from "Load", will enjoy every minute of this stellar 1997 concert performance.

Review: So-called die hard "fans" cringe that vocalist James Hetfield has lost his edge. Music listeners stuck in the early 80's fret that the band doesn't play enough old material. Critics claim Metallica has sold out. Well, as bassist Jason Newstead said in a recent TV documentary on VH-1, Metallica has sold out: every seat, every time, anywhere they go. This video demonstrates why - disturbingly tight musicianship, mesmerizing lighting and pyro-techniques, and honest, often comedic, interaction with the crowd. The intro to "One" for example, a dizzying array of gunfire, explosions, and stunning camera work, is as good a DVD demo moment as you'll find. Impress your friends, scare your parents. Metallica manages to make an arena show feel intimate. Loaded with extras, "Cunning Stunts" comes highly recommended.

Summary: To everyone that ISN'T a Metallica fan...
Review: First off, this concert DVD is for the fans. If you don't enjoy "mistakes" or "fun" on stage, then you might as well go buy Milli Vanilli on DVD. Because this is raw, concert, non rehearsed Metallica at it's best. There are PLENTY of songs on here that sound great [even if Hetfield screeches a few times, you try singing 3 hours a day 5 days a week for 2 years and we'll see how your voice sounds]. I love it. I've always been a big fan, and I've tried to see Metallica as many times as possible. To the fans, this is a great DVD. To people that expect a concert to be perfect, well you might as well just by a CD of Metallica because you're going to be disappointed. Oh, and to the person that made the comment about the energy being "low" due to the "pause and comment" portions to the crowd, you've obviously never gone to a concert, because that's what a CONCERT is all about. Sure, they could have edited those portions out, but if you've ever seen them live, you'll realize what Metallica made this DVD for. For fans that CAN'T always go see them live. This DVD captures the TRUE concert feel. And for the price, this DVD can't be beat. Plenty of songs, multiple camera angles, background information on the band and the concert setup, pictures taken while touring, and plenty of great loud explosions and pyro, just like Metallica has been, will be, and always shall be.

Summary: "The Cell" it isn't but it's a hell of a DVD.
Review: I am another 30+ year old fan. The sound of this DVD is excellent as is the camera footage. DOWNSIDE-The ONLY thing I find distracting is that they play under "unnatural concert lighting" and it seems to throw them just a bit. You can tell that they seem to be out of their element with the camera lights and all. UPSIDE-I have shown this DVD to friends of mine that are NOT Metallica or Heavy Metal fans whatsoever and they all agreed that there is a lot of precise talent that goes into making this band. They all admitted their misconceived notions and that Metallica is not just loud, fist shaking, guitar slapping, ear-breaking noise. Even my friends that buy every Pop Hit was amazed at what Kirk was doing. I think Metallica gained a few more fans. I really enjoyed the perks of this heavily technology ladened DVD. For those of you that have a DVD on your computer or a internet connected media system-----you will especially enjoy the extras. I found all the photo's of the tour especially interesting. I just wish Aerosmith or Ozzy could come up with a comparable DVD. In closing, this DVD is worth your hard earned cash.

Summary: Another killer live DVD set from Metallica!!!!!
Review: "CUNNING STUNTS" was the first concert video filmed with the DVD format in mind, and it looks that way, too: great sound and picture, alternate camera angles and loads of special features. Only flaws: splitting the show onto two discs instead of putting the whole show on one (like the VHS version) and not including the video clips from LOAD, RELOAD and GARAGE INC. with the special features. Other than that, a killer concert from Metallica!!!!!

Summary: A MASTERPIECE
Review: I am normally very critical of many of the heavy metal dvds out today. Mainly because of editing and cinematography. This one is a keeper! I would use stronger words, but the Amazon censor police would substitute them with kindergarten words [ ]. I loved the 360 degree stage in the middle of the arena and the "was that real?" theatrics at the end of Enter Sandman. The set list was great. If you are a true metal fan you've got to get this one. It's a little pricey, but worth it.
