Summary: "3 1/2 Years of Metallica summed Up in 90 Minutes"
Review: This 90 minute DVD (or VHS) is a great look at the "old Metallica", before they began to slide in 1996, with the release of the mediocre "Load" album. I actually purchased this tape during the "ReLoad" era, and was blown away by the raw energy of their early live shows, and Cliff Burton's "Hendrix-style" bass pyro-technics. The tracks "Creeping Death", "Fade to Black", "Sanitarium", and "For Whom the Bell Tolls" are worth the $20 alone you will pay for this collection. The other tunes are recorded a bit less professionally, but the sound quality is decent. "Dave Mustaine (former-Megadeth)" is featured on lead guitar on one song, and Cliff Burton's 2nd gig ever is captured on film as well. If you love the recordings "Kill 'Em All", "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets", and "Garage Days 1984", then this rare glimpse of early Metallica is a great purchase. Hey, also check out

"Live Sh*t" is by far Metallica's best live release. Every hit single, cover song, and fan favorite is featured.

Summary: Great Tribute
Review: "Cliff 'Em All" is the ultimate tribute to Cliff Burton, former bass player of Metallica. This video consists of 90 minutes of Metallica concert footage from 1983 to 1986 (Keep in mind that all of this footage was shot on early '80s VHS film, so the video and audio quality are extremely poor for DVD.) The video has been cleaned up somewhat from the VHS release of this title, but imperfections from the source tape are still easily recognizable. The audio is in mono, and isn't of the best quality, but it does come across a tad cleaner with DVD. However, this is a must-buy for hardcore Metallica (and possibly even Megadeth - Dave Mustaine plays on a few songs) fans simply for the fact that it captures the early vengeance of live Metallica, and is the ultimate tribute to Cliff Burton. Don't expect super hi-res picture quality or Dolby 5.1 surround; just expect raw, angry, intelligent heavy metal from the best rock band of all time.

Review: I became interested in Metallica during their "black album" years and had never given much thought to their pre-Jason Newsted years. The more I got into Metallica the more I learned that Cliff was the foundation of the band. So I decided to purchase this DVD to see what was so special with this man. I get choked up while typing this review thinking of the sheer talent of this individual. If you watch and really listen to tracks 8 and 18 you understand the depth of his passing and how TRULY talented this man was. Metallica is a great band-no doubt. But the Metallica that ruled the world with Cliff Burton as their bassist will always be an 'effing' great band.

Review: Cliff Burton will live forever with the making of this video. Burton is and was my all time favorite bass-guitar player and this video is in tribute of him. Even for all the Metallica fans today who didn't listen to the group when Cliff was around (I'm guessing thats 95% or more of their current fans) you get a chance to see Metallica at their best...before they went mainstream. This tape contains old concert footage with Cliff Burton as well as rare footage of the original group consisting of Dave Mustang of MegaDeth on guitar and Burton on bass. Jason Newsted has nothing on Cliff Burton who is mediocre to say the least. I truly believe if Cliff were still alive today Metallica would still be the same great Heavy Metal band that they were back in the day.

Review: i got into metallica when i was a teen in the early 90s. back then, the black album had just come out... late 91. the first real experience i had with the band was with kill em all, a metal friend lent it to me. in this time i was a "hard rocker" i.e van halen, guns n roses, etc. the first thing i heard of metallica was enter sandman, in this same time smells like teen spirit by nirvana was around. the mystery of metallica intrigued me... and so i went to kill em all. later ride the lightning, master, and so forth. metallica changed me into a "metal kid". they were not my favorite band, my "second", but i gotta give em credit for the great musical influence & change that ocurred in those years. i remember in those early days hanging out at a friend's house, the same guy who lent me kill em all, and watching cliff em all when it was extremely rare, on vhs... dvds did not exist. now my point.
i stopped liking metal around the time metallica came out with load. nontheless, as a person who greatly respected one of the best rock bands of my time, i was dissapointed with them after black. to all newbie metallica fans out there(post-black fans),
i dont blame them for their mainstream route... they turned older and tasted fame. i understand it. but my point is simple, to all these new kids digging on present-day metallica and the whole plascticized new-metal scene, i got this to say: if you consider yourself a true lover of meatllica, tune in to cliff em all. check out the band when they were REALLY metallica, when metal was newborn and innovavtive... music that helped changed the world of rock into what it is today. to REAL metallica fans, study your past!! thats what i got to say. peace

Summary: Any Fan of Cliff or Metallica Better Love This ... Or Else!!
Review: In regards to the 1-star review obviously didn't bother to read anything about this DVD before purchasing it. It clearly states in "EVERY" critical review that this is "NOT" a professional recording; it's a compilation of bootleg footage shot by Metallica fans during Cliff's 3 1/2 years with the band. Bootleg footage, almost by definition, is guaranteed to be sub-par quality at best. After everything I've heard about the crappy video quality, I have to say this DVD looks a helluva lot better than I was expecting, and it deserves nothing less that 5 stars!But be warned: anyone expecting quality on par with Cunning Stunts or the S&M show should not buy this DVD. Anyone who loved the Cliff Burton era of Metallica, or just wants to check out Metallica in the old days, pouring their heart, and soul into every show should pick this up in a heartbeat. To quote Jaymz: "The quality in some places ain't that happening, but the feeling is there and that's what matters!

Review: its awsum but the picture quality sucks because it is bootleg footage(people who videotape the concert that arent professionals at videotaping) and because half of the time the picture is blurred. but the sound quality actually sounds like Metallica's old stuff unlike the new live videos(Cunning Stunts and S & M). overall it is a great video when the picture is where you can see it. even though the picture is blurred, you can hear the sound just fine. there are a few bass solos done by Cliff Burton. this video is a tribute to Cliff and if he hadnt have died then Metallica wouldnt be what theyre today.

Summary: Great DVD Bad Quality
Review: Allright Metallifans, lets get straight to the point. This is a good video but as the box says the quality ain't that happening.It contains bootleg footage of shows when they were a young band with only 1 CD out, Kill Em All, footage fom Day at the Green 85, shows from the ride the lightning tour in 85, and shows in 86 supporting Ozzy. Summary: Why I'm a bassist...
Review: "Cliff 'Em All" is one of several reasons why I'm a bassist. Cliff didn't just chunk away at root notes like most other hard rock/metal bassists of the 80's did (other exceptions: Steve Harris, Lemmy Kilminster). He took the bass guitar to new levels by doing solos, using fuzz/wah tones, harmonizing with guitar riffs, and much more. Unfortunately, a lot of music these days (from ANY genre) refuses to recognize bass players as much more than just a background member. Some bands these days don't even have bassists! But Cliff was more than just a bassist. He was also an excellent musician/songwriter. His contribution to the sound of Metallica is immeasurable. And his talents are well-represented in this DVD. The ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars is for quality, but that's a very minor detail. If you're a bassist, buy this DVD. If you're a Metallica fan, buy this DVD. If you're a metalhead, buy this DVD. If you just appreciate talented musicians at the top of their game, buy this DVD. If {whatever}, buy this DVD... you will not regret it!
