Rating: Summary: Great Chicks, MTV DVD Review: What a mixture of good and bad! You can't diss the Chicks - their songs, musicianship and general charisma just burst onto the screen. But whoever did the MTV-Attention-Deficit film editing should get a clue. The music needs to be heard without manic cross-cutting from concert to concert! And one more thing. Whoever did Natalie's pulled-back-trailer-trash-punk-country-Mars-Needs-Women-hairdo and makeup should study up on their Braille and change careers. Immediately.
Rating: Summary: An excellent example of how NOT to edit Review: I saw the Dixie Chicks at the Gund Arena in Cleveland, and truly superb they were. I'd been looking forward to seeing this DVD for a while. I watched it once and returned it as unwatchable. This DVD should be used in film school as a perfect example of how not to put together a music dvd. Contrast the editing on this with the masterly work on Peter Gabriel's "Secret World Live" DVD.
Rating: Summary: worth watching, despite flaws. Review: I enjoyed this video, although all the editing and cuts between concerts can get annoying at times. Some performances are better than others, but there are a few gems... Goodbye Earl, There's Your Trouble, Travelin' Soldier, White Trash Wedding, Lil' Slade Jack are all keepers. Really nice performance on "A Home".
Not nearly as good as the HBO special that aired a couple of years ago, but if you are a big Dixie Chicks fan like me you'll still want this DVD in your collection.
Rating: Summary: rip-off Review: Jefferson was too kind in his review. This video stinks. But I'm sure a true Dixie Chicks fan will dismiss this review as mere plattle. Obviously, I am not a big fan. I liked their concert with James Taylor that I saw on TV a few years back. This video was heavily discounted and now I know why it was so cheap.
In my opinion, I was defrauded. This video was packaged as if it were a concert. But as others have mentioned in their reviews, it's a bunch of concerts spliced together. When I buy a concert video, it's so I can get a feel for what the artist is like in concert - not to see a lengthy music video.
But I think the most annoying thing was the lead singer. She was an assault to my ears and eyes. The other two are so talented (and pretty). Perhaps they can swap-out the pudgy one for Faith Hill. Heck, they could even put Ashley Simpson in there and they would be better!
Unless you're a devoted fan who buys all products out of mere loyalty, save your money.
Rating: Summary: Does not do justice to the Dixie Chicks Review: The songs are there but there is no feeling or emotion conveyed to the listener/viewer. Unfortunatley, all has been lost through very poor editing. This DVD is mixed from multiple concerts and suffers badly as a result -the only plus is that you get to see the girls in numerous outfits! Sound quality is questionable too, lacking base and warmth. If you want a live DVD of the Dixie Chicks, skip this DVD and buy the superior "An Evening With The Dixie Chicks" instead.
Rating: Summary: No wonder I didn't like the Chicks! Review: Thanks to the other reviewers out here, I now realize why I didn't like the Dixie Chicks at first. It's this dad-blasted video!! Unfortunately, this video was my first exposure to the group and, at first, I didn't credit the horrible editing as the cause of my disappointment. I blamed the Chicks! However, I just bought the "Wide Open Spaces" CD the other day and realize now that the Dixie Chicks is what I'm about musically. My favorite bands are the Byrds, the Bangles and the Buffalo Springfield so the Chicks naturally vaulted to the top of my all-time favorite list. Got to go out now and buy the "other" video (the good one) and the other two CDs. Thanks to the Amazon reviewers for enlightening me on this.
Rating: Summary: Excellent in every sense Review: Excellent musicians and excellent live performances. In short, this DVD is fantastic.
Rating: Summary: Most can't live up to their doctored studio recordings, Review: But Natilie's voice is as strong on the stage as it is in the recording room...you can't say that about most singers or musicians. Dixie Chicks are GREAT!
Rating: Summary: Good Live DVD but... Review: This is a great live DVD for the most part of the Dixie Chicks Top of the World Tour from 2003. The performances are energetic and upbeat, quiet when needed, and overall entertaining. No problem with the music. The problem with the DVD comes with the editing. Unfortunately, the concert is edited from various shows, it's not just one single show. The editing wasn't even done very well, so it's a little jarring to watch. But the music is great throughout, and fans will definately want to check this out.
