Rating: Summary: BUY THE OTHER CHICKS DVD! Review: In a nutshell, you'd be better off buying the other concert DVD. I had high hopes after buying the acoustic DVD. This one disappoints on all fronts. This one has low production qualities and chopped up editing. It looks very digital and not at all film-like.The songs are frequently spliced segments from multiple shows...I mean on the beat or measure, not the whole song. It is like a lousy piece meal edit job. Very little comtinuity and nary a whole song performance on the DVD. Buy the acoustic Chicks DVD first. If you have that, buy Alison Krauss. Save your dough don't buy this one.
Rating: Summary: they are a Bit too Polished for my tastes Review: I think they are Very Talented&Nice Looking but there Music is a Bit too Polished for me at times&Leaves alot of Shine without any Flavor for me.lots of dubbing here&it wrecks what could have been a Must have Collection from them.but I respect there Hustle&they are Talented.
Rating: Summary: If you want a studio DVD this is the one for you Review: What a complete ripoff. This is supposed to be LIVE. That doesn't mean voice overs of flubs. Buyer beware
Rating: Summary: Top of the Line (mostly) Review: Great concert video all-around, but I would have preferred to see one complete concert without all the editing of footage from several. It's also refreshing to see the band focusing on the music, and barely even addressing the controversy that has seemingly engulfed them this past year. The "Top of the World" video included here is a nice bonus, a surprisingly effective cautionary tale that you may to watch more than once to fully grasp. Certainly this is a must-have for fans. And at the price, it's the best 10 bucks you're likely to spend all year.
Rating: Summary: Chicks are World-class on Top of the World DVD! Review: I didn't get to see the Chicks live for this concert, but am a devotee of Chicks', bluegrass and rock music. This DVD is full of the energy and magnetism of these wide-open musicians. Their back-up band for the tour is fantastic, with no bluegrass or rock instrument played in anything but frenetic style most of the way. The slower, gentler melodies like Godspeed and A Home are truly moving, and beautifully accented in concert with the lights down. The stage sets that we can see are fabulous, which is consistent with the reviews I read of the stage in its entirety on the tour. All in all, it's a rollicking, exhilirating ride for the viewer and music lover!
Rating: Summary: Too Perfect!!! Review: Just wanted to share this with you...I purchased the Dixie Chicks "Top Of The World" Live DVD and to my surprise it isn't as LIVE as they'd like us to think. That said the stage is awesome...the ambience wonderful and the girls are super musicians. However, the sound they emote is not from those concerts it's LIVE somewhere but not those concerts perhaps it's a small studio type concert like London's Abbey Road or a controlled environment type of concert. Yes, the girls were singing LIVE at each of the stops on the Top Of The World Tour and anyone who attending can attest to that and the fact they didn't sound so clean and pristine like on record. This DVD however has been cleaned up to sound so perfect it's fake. Gone our the audience(s) singing along to their fun tunes we see them mutely singing and jumping around but why can't we hear them during each song. The audience comes in clearly clapping and cheering at the beginning and end but nowhere in between. The Chicks singing is so clear and pristinely perfect that it somehow seems fake ....I mean in a concert environment there's always little booboos like singing slightly off key yes, even the Chicks are know to do that...like adjusting the mike with feedback and how does one manage to dance around up and down stairs and maintain perfect pitch. We can clearly hear Natalie's slight edge in her voice with the constant repeat's of Hello Vancouver, Hello NY, Hello Kentucky...and so on. Even during Ready to Run we hear her voice it doesn't sound as perfect as it does when she sings. Come now, we like to hear the sounds emoting from each concert there's something really unique about hearing an artist so into each performance and the crowd that their overwhelmed by the excitement and newness of each concert. Especially when this DVD is a compilation of various concert stops..these changes should show in the sound of their voice..gone is the uniqueness of the moment. Voila, editing and studio magic. If I wanted another CD I would of purchased one....I wanted to see and hear the Chicks sounding like any other artist of their caliber singing a two hour show with energy and passion...not perfection...gosh, too bad. Isie
Rating: Summary: I saw this tour live, and this was like being again!!! Review: Well I was very excited when I heard they were going to have a live cd and dvd come out of this tour. I have seen them in concert three times and all times were awesome, but there was something special about being at this concert. I am huge fan of the Dixie Chicks and they have never once dissapointed me. If you are a true fan you will buy this DVD and the cd and you wont be dissapointed. The only ones writing bad reviews for the most part are just looking for a way to express their hatered towards the Dixie Chicks, which I don't get because they are one of the most talented bands out there. It was like being at the concert all over again! A+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Rating: Summary: Love the Chicks. Hate the editing. Review: I find the frenetic costume change with every shot editing of the DVD very distracting and would have preferred a single performance at a single venue, or at least each song whole from a single performance/venue rather than the contrived, abeit expert, mixing of shots from many performances during the course of each song. The Dixie Chicks do not need this kind of technical trickery to entertain me and I much prefer their first DVD for the purity of performance. If they chose to release a second version of this DVD without the frenetic editing, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Rating: Summary: Ruling Da Roost!! Review: I saw this Tour in Dublin and wot a mesmerising display of vocal prowess, musicianship and crowd pleasing country-rock performed at its best! Forget the Bush-Maines controversy...wotever spills from Natalie's lips other than music is irrelevant. The Chicks make damn good music and this DVD solidifies the highlights of their last 3 albums, with crowd-pleasing hits-fest Landslide, There's Your Trouble, Long Time Gone and Wide Open Spaces amongst others. What you witness is a group that exudes vitality and talent, and performs more challenging songs than your average group. What impressed me most aobut the DVD is that it selects highlights form different cities in the US, hence makin the DVD not just a re-enactment of the Tour but a wonderful souvenir of an electric night's entertainment! The stage is humungous (in Ireland they used a standard stage as they haven't the same fanbase as in US) and the girls work it - they look fantastic and sound even better (the DVD proudly states that no overdubs were used!). Travellin Soldier, a hymn to war-veterans is a haunting poem set, Truth No2 a challenge of political inconsistency and Godspeed the tale of a father whose son moves to France and this song was written to send the child to sleep at night. The Chicks are story-tellers. The finery of Robison and Maguire's musicianship is impeccably demonstrated in the more vibrant numbers which also get the crowds going - White Trash Wedding is a tongue-in-cheek riot and Tortured Tangled Hearts a sardonic look at love gone awry. The most torturous songs amply indicate the force that is Maines...Cowboy and Ready to Run have amazing harmonies along with confident lead vocal delivery. The key tune for the night (and in Dublin the video was performed with it) is lent to the title of the Tour - Top of the World. The harrowing and tear-jerking video is on the DVD and the live! version on the cd. It tells the story of a deceased man's retrospective and bitterly regretful view of his life. This an EPIC song which caused audience eruptions. An unlikely song which simply kills me EVERY time I watch it. A grammy-worthy song from a grammy-winning album and a worthy title for a tour which has smashed all records....awesome, euphoric and harrowing. Some slight difference to the tour I saw....A Home was not performed, but More Love was. Nevertheless I can't complain (although would have loved I Believe In Love to be performed). The Tour is a veritable romp through not only the Chicks' musical and lyrical evolution but testimony to the fact that these gals are the saving grace of country music. Long may they continue. Mesmerising.
