Rating: Summary: Come back Posh Spice, all is forgiven ! Review: I thought the "Evening with the Dixie Chicks" was a great DVD, so was looking forward to viewing this one. It ought to be the subject of a Trades Description Act review, as its so blatantly not a complete live performance - all the stupid editing proves that. I saw a comparison of the Dixie Chicks and the Spice Girls somewhere, and it was pointed out that the Spice Girls rely on Lip Sync and overproduction - unlike the Chicks at that time.Well, on the evidence of this, the Chicks have descended to that level - on their released "live" recordings at any rate. Come back Posh Spice, all is forgiven !
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT CONCERT!! Review: This is an amazing DVD. WOW! These chicks are very talented. I have read a few of the reviews and I don't understand why so many people are giving it one star and saying that it is overdubbed. This is LIVE. It says, on the DVD, as follows: "This album was recorded entirely live, there are no studio overdubs." They do indeed sound that good. I think the editing is very cool and it shows the chicks with different outfits and hairstyles. It is definetly not distracting and I think it makes it more fun to watch. The DVD includes 8 songs from Home, 8 songs from Fly, and 2 from their 1st CD. I would also recommend the audio CD of this tour. It includes 4 extra songs:Am I the only one who's ever felt this way, Top of the world, Truth #2, and Mississippi (a Bob Dylan cover). Although the CD only includes one new song it is definetly worth getting it anyways.
Rating: Summary: Better Without the Trick Editing Review: A live concert should be a captured moment. It is an expression of how a band sounds at a given time. Unfortunately this DVD does not represent the Dixie Chicks at a given moment of their Top of the World Tour. It is a mish mash culled from up to ten performances and then edited together with venue changes occurring about every five seconds or so. Musically all the songs are there but I can't tell if they were done live or just dubbed to go with the film editing. This could have been a great live DVD unfortunately it simply wasn't due to the poor choice of format. If you want the music buy the CD and stay away from this overly polished production.
Rating: Summary: It's ALMOST as good as being there. . . Review: I, unlike some of the other reviewers, was unable to see the Chicks in concert, so I have nothing to base my review off of other than the DVD. I'm sure seeing them live in person would be amazing, but I thought this DVD was great! It captures their personalities, their spirit and the music wonderfully in my opionion. I was a little confused in the first couple of minutes (as one reviewer pointed out, they edited the video from as many as 10 different shows- so there is some definite costume and hair changes). But, after the first song, it's easy to get used to, and kind of cool. Don't be nervous because of all of the negative reviews. I got this as a Christmas gift, and I absolutely love it. It also has a bonus music video of "Top of the World."
Rating: Summary: Mellow Out On The Polarized Reviews Review: Reading through the reviews of this disc, I see people at polar opposites of opinion. Some are certain that these are not live recordings, others believe they are. I'm in agreement with the latter. I know the studio recordings well enough to know these aren't lip-sync video mix jobs. I do believe there are some overdubs, based upon the variations in the acoustic envelope from one song to another. The video editing is a bit distracting from time to time. In case you haven't seen it, the video from a single song was taken from as many as 10 different performances, with the chicks wearing different costumes for each. So you get Natalie singing a verse, then on the next verse, she's wearing something different. But the audio sounds seamless for the most part, so it's possible they took the audio feed from the best performance or two they got, then synced-up the video pieces to match. This must have been a huge job at the editing console and I'm a bit ambivalent about it. On one hand, it can be distracting and on the other, it could have been part of their artistic statement. Cool stage setup, excellent contributions from the band, great live sound. Anyone else not care for Natalie's hair do? The included video is interesting and troubling. I'd like to hear some spoken interpretation on this.
Rating: Summary: What a disapointment Review: Who purchases a concert performance on DVD to see something completely processed and redubbed? Chopped up into brief visual bits so as to make you feel completely distant from the experience? Why would they choose to put this on film instead of video, which is so much better for making you feel a part of the concert? Lots of bad decisions in the production of this. I didn't get through the whole thing, and I doubt I'll put it on again.
Rating: Summary: Horrible Review: Went to two concerts of the Top Of The World Tour. Orlando & NYC. Both GREAT shows! VERY dissapointed in this DVD. Choppy editing with NO continuity. Sweetened Sound Track with no Live feel at all. Don't Buy it!! Chicks, your fans don't deserve this garbage.
Rating: Summary: Beware - dvd lacks real live audio!!! Review: My wife and I both think the Dixie Chicks are a great return to acts that can write and play their own music. We have seen the girls several times - a few at Lilith Fair, and the Top of the World tour. What a letdown then to hear that somebody made the poor decision not to use the live concert audio feed for this DVD. It has been overdubbed to death. There is not ONE ounce of real live singing to be had here. Who cares if the girls make a few mistakes, or were out of breath running around, that's the point of a live show. Thier other "live" DVD is truly so - and proves the girls are top notch talent - too bad some producer thought is was better to put video ahead of audio. Whoever that person was, shame on you - when you have talent right in front of you - let us hear them - LIVE - just like you advertised!
Rating: Summary: Missing the Truth? Review: I saw this live, and I only note one thing missing from this DVD. I haven't seen Truth Number 2. I think that was the best thing they did live. I would love to see it. I don't know if they're goikng to release it on it's own DVD or what.....But it rather annoys my wife and I.
Rating: Summary: Different! Review: First of all, for those that have said the sound on this DVD is too perfect (inplying that it's been 'touched up' in the studio), let me just say that I've had the pleasure of seeing the Dixie Chicks live, & they do indeed sound this good! The Chicks are great live performers - energetic, enthusiastic & entertaining, & you see it all here! The reason I've given this DVD 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's suffering from severe schizophrenia - it's actually filmed at about 10 different concerts, but you don't see a whole song from 1 concert. Instead it will be a few seconds from one, & then on to another. The first time I watched it I found it quite bizarre! However the editing is seamless, & it's fun seeing all their different outfits. I've now watched it a few times, & it's really grown on me!! No extra's to speak of, but then in music DVD's they rarely seem to bother with them any more.
