Rating: Summary: One of those moments you carry forever Review: Nanci happens to travel to our area on a somewhat regular basis. Maybe it is that I have seen her more often than some members of my own family. Maybe it is that Ireland-Texas-Tennessee Connection we share. Maybe it is the fact that I can sing along with every song... or listen with pure joy. But the night we sat in the Tennessee Theater and listened to Nanci and her friends (second time in a month... just this time with cameras) perform the entire evening ... no opening band, no comedian ... just song and story and sharing for hours ... it is one of those moments that you want to drain every drop of. Yeah, the stories and the jokes were the same as the performance a couple of weeks earlier, but this time we were insiders. Those of you who will only get the digital version of the evening are being cheated a little. But only a little. Nanci and James Hooker's vocal duet on "Gulf Coast Highway" is worth the price of admission. Unless you have seen Nanci live, you haven't heard this version, and for my money there is none better. How precious that there were cameras there to capture it. Should Julie Gold's "Goodnight New York" jump to #1 on Billboard for some pop diva, I will be the one popping in Nanci's version and feeling all smug that I knew it when...
Rating: Summary: A Great Night of Music and Friends Review: OK, I'm pretty biased here. I have followed Nancy's career since she was a regular on National Public Radio's "Prairie Home Companion" radio show. The lead guitarist on this DVD and the "Clock Without Hands" CD is a very close friend of mine: Chaz Williams. And I was in attendance that evening with several friends and get to see myself in quite a bit of the crowd footage. OK, all that aside, this was a really fun show to be present at. Nancy is a wonderful entertainer and chose some excellent special guests (including one of my all-time favorite ladies: EmmyLou Harris). Her lyrics and manner are as pure and sweet as her voice. You can get a real sense of her presence, humor and playfulness on this DVD. The playing of her supporting band members is truly fantastic. Another great benefit is that the proceeds of that show went towards the restoration of the beautiful Tennessee Theater on Gay street in downtown Knoxville, TN--a VERY worthy and much-needed endeavor. The crowd that night left feeling a special connection with the performers and the venue and I think you will sense that as you watch the DVD.

Rating: Summary: Nanci Griffith - Songstress at her best Review: This is a fabulous DVD. I haven't heard Nanci sound any better. As usual with Nanci and the Blue Moon Orchestra, there are absolutely no theatrics. The whole group stand virtually static, pouring their heart and soul into each of the songs. Some earlier contributor mentioned Nanci's humanity, and that is a spendid representation of the atmosphere that saturates each of her performances. Despite being such a great performer and songwriter herself, she is constantly praising other musicians and songwriters. Gracious, humble, authentic....simply Nanci Griffith
Rating: Summary: Much Better Than The CD Review: This is a great DVD of a great live performance. It starts out a little subdued, but then Nanci hits her stride, when she starts playing some of her older material. I love her in between song talking, she sounds like someone you have known all your life. The CD version cuts all this out. Also this has 5 extra songs not included on the CD. I saw Nanci perform about two weeks after this was recorded, and this is a fine represenation of her live shows. Don't miss her if you get the chance to see her live.
