Rating: Summary: An Amazing Performance and Concert Review: Anyone who loves Nanci Griffith will thoroughly enjoy this DVD. She does an excellent job of blending her older and newer songs, enabling her to completely keep you interested and excited. The sound quality on the CD is wonderful - and if you turn it up really loud, you can pretend that you are at the concert. On a side note - I actually was at the concert where they recorded this DVD. It was very interesting to see the process - including her having to completely re-perform one of the songs, because someone felt her lipstick had worn off a bit too much. I had a really fabulous time at the concert - and I really believe that you can tell this through the energy of the DVD. This DVD is absolutely fantastic - and a must have for any Nanci Griffith fan!
Rating: Summary: Nanci at her best but song selection could have been better Review: I enjoyed this concert a lot, mainly because it showed Nanci Griffith at her best. Some time ago I saw a concert of her performing in Ireland, and I was put off by that concert a lot. She was jumping around stage and trying to be something she's not and appeared very commercial, and the songs she sang were woeful (and I have to say her performance wasn't much better). I thought at the time, if this is going to be the Nanci of the future then I'll give up on her. This concert, thankfully, is nothing like the Irish one and shows her at her best, performing in a more gracious, traditional way. It is how I for one expect her to be. The filming, sound recording, lighting and general production of this concert was excellent. Nanci's performance was first rate. My only criticism is that the song selection could have been much better (many of the songs were disappointing), but that's my own personal beef and these songs may appeal more to others. Although I enjoyed this concert a lot, it does not rank as her best work on film - that goes to the "Other Voices, Other Rooms" concert, which has been captured on VHS but for some unfathomable reason has not been released on DVD. Why, does anyone know?
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: I found this concert DVD to be exceptional. No glitz or tricks, just a display of exceptional talent. The images are compelling and the sounds are fantastic. Of course a big part of the appeal is Nanci Griffith herself. She transmits such warmth and honesty through her performance on this DVD. The filming reminds me of an Austin City Limits program, showcasing the music. And as she points out in the concert, she doesn't change clothes even once during the performance.

Rating: Summary: What a wonderful concert! Review: I have never had the opportunity to see Nanci perform live...but last night, after having just received WINTER MARQUEE from Amazon.Com, I got to enjoy one of the warmest, most enjoyable live performances ever! The intimate setting of the theater coupled with the excellent camera work make this a very "up close and personal" experience. And what is to say about Nanci? She is incredible! A wonderful singer, songwriter and, no doubt, person! Being the proud owner of much of her work...what can I say I Love Her! Treat yourself to this DVD!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Winter Marquee - Nanci at her best. Review: I was fortunate enough to catch this concert live at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville, TN. As you will hear and see, it was a magical night and Ms. Griffith was at her very best. I've followed Nanci's career for many years, and attended numerous concerts -- this ranks among the best ever. I especially appreciate the simple arrangements which magnificantly showcase one of the most beautiful voices in contemporary music. Favorite tracks include the Towne's Van Zandt cover "White Freight Liner Blues" and Nanci's signature "Gulf Coast Highway" with James Hooker on vocals. The night was made complete by the presence of Emmylou Harris. This is a must have DVD/CD for anyone who appreciates quality acoustic music. Nanci's loyal fans will love it, and it's sure to attract many new listeners. Enjoy! Shawn Kimbro ...
Rating: Summary: Magical and a special gift to her fans. Review: I watched this DVD twice after receiving it and can't tell you how much of a thrill it was to see Nanci perform some of her material live.Nanci is one of those singer-songwriters who I have always admired and loved. Her ability to make me stop and listen to her sing, while at the same time enjoy her storytelling, make her a unique performer. I knew I would probably enjoy this live performance, but it was only after viewing it that I was awed by her voice and her wonderful stage presence. This is like a wonderful gift Nanci shares with those of us who have never seen her perform live. She shines, and then some. Her "Blue Moon Orchestra", and her special guests, including"Emmylou Harris" also share a strong respect, love, and admiration for her musical abilities and her strong sense of humanity. Nanci, the performer, is as self-effacing as I had imagined she would be.The concert takes place in a wonderfully intimate setting that really showcases her skills and looks impeccable. If you are a Nanci Griffith fan, she will delight, inspire, and please you with her performance.Thank you Nanci for this.It was worth the wait to have such a cherished keepsake.
Rating: Summary: Soft but strong. Review: I've always enjoyed listening to Nanci Griffith and this DVD was a wonderful gift. Performance is a big part of music. It's wonderful what the engineers do in the recording studio, but I think the true test of a song and a singer is what happens when they stand alone on the stage in front of an audience. A live DVD is not the same thing as being there, but it's much closer than a live album. Bravo.
Rating: Summary: One Criticism Review: I've been a fan of Nanci Griffith for years. I couldn't wait to buy this DVD when I saw it was available. Like the other reviewers, the music is great. What's not to like? But.....I couldn't believe that she would issue a DVD in only 2-channel sound. Why on earth would you use the latest technology of DVD, and then not utilize 5.1 channel sound? This was a huge disappointment, and prospective customers should know this, since the package does not specify the sound specs.
Rating: Summary: Soft but strong. Review: Nanci happens to travel to our area on a somewhat regular basis. Maybe it is that I have seen her more often than some members of my own family. Maybe it is that Ireland-Texas-Tennessee Connection we share. Maybe it is the fact that I can sing along with every song... or listen with pure joy. But the night we sat in the Tennessee Theater and listened to Nanci and her friends (second time in a month... just this time with cameras) perform the entire evening ... no opening band, no comedian ... just song and story and sharing for hours ... it is one of those moments that you want to drain every drop of. Yeah, the stories and the jokes were the same as the performance a couple of weeks earlier, but this time we were insiders. Those of you who will only get the digital version of the evening are being cheated a little. But only a little. Nanci and James Hooker's vocal duet on "Gulf Coast Highway" is worth the price of admission. Unless you have seen Nanci live, you haven't heard this version, and for my money there is none better. How precious that there were cameras there to capture it. Should Julie Gold's "Goodnight New York" jump to #1 on Billboard for some pop diva, I will be the one popping in Nanci's version and feeling all smug that I knew it when...
