Rating: Summary: Dixie Chick's Finest Hour... Review: I read Tom Keogh's review--don't know whether he liked the concert or not! Such is the case with many professional reviewers. I am writing from a more "grass roots" level of music appreciation. I saw the show on NBC and in spite of the commercials, it was one of the best music shows I have ever seen. The concert setting was ideal; the music was great; the band was superb; the engineering was flawless and the Chicks exuded sparkling personality and musical excellence. They have truly come into their own. If you liked "Home," their most recent CD, you'll love this concert. Many of the songs are on the DVD. I wish there were more of their other hits in the concert; I didn't want it to end. It was that good. Buy it NOW!
Rating: Summary: Transcendant! Review: The Dixie Chicks are the real thing. When this program first aired as an NBC special, I was glued to the set and transfixed by their musicianship and integrity. I already loved the album "Home" and knew it represented their finest work to date. And seeing and hearing them perform this material (along with favorites from earlier albums) confirmed for me that I was witnessing the birth of something entirely remarkable. I know how Salieri felt when he first heard Mozart. The sequence including "Top of the World" by the incomparable Patty Griffin left me weeping.
Rating: Summary: This was a fantastic concert! Review: I saw the television special from which the DVD was recorded. It was a fantastic set. They hit all the high points of the new album and worked in a couple of favorites. I hope the DVD has more songs than the TV set did. Highly recommended...
Rating: Summary: great DVD! Review: Whether or not a person likes the music of the Dixie Chicks will determine if they like this DVD or not. I really like the Dixie Chicks and had the pleasure of seeing them live when they played Lilith Fair years ago. This DVD is a one night concert, and is less than 2 hours long. Most of the concert is the Dixie Chicks playing all the songs from their newest album "Home" They start with the first track and play the album through. It is nice to get a chance to see them perform songs that might not otherwise be played in a concert. The last four songs they play are from their two previous albums. Those songs are Wide Open Spaces, Cowboy Take Me Away, Goodbye Earl, Sin Wagon. While each of these songs are hits, hearing them play "Cowboy Take Me Away" is truly a joy. If you like the Dixie Chicks, or just good country music, check this DVD out.
Rating: Summary: The Must See Concert of Martie, Natalie & Emily! Review: In order to get the total Dixie Chicks experience exploration must be given to their visual side in addition to their music. This DVD includes the entire Home CD plus wonderful acoustic versions of Wide Open Spaces, Goodbye Earl & Cowboy Take Me Away. The show concludes with concert favorite Sin Wagon. Natalie Maines provides superior lead vocals & sisters Martie Maguire & Emily Robison supply top notch pickin' & fiddlin'. All 3 Chicks have a friendly stage presence & props must be given to Martie as the only fiddle player I've ever seen who usually has a smile on her face & doesn't look like they're in pain! Highly recommended for fans who have the Dixies music but no videos from the Texas trio.
Rating: Summary: dixie chicks are sweet Review: I am so surprised no one else has written a review on this fantastic DVD... This concert took place in Los Angeles California and was really something special. It was inside an auditorium so the setting was very intimate and all the audience seemed to be young girls singing along with the tunes.
The Dixie chicks really gave a arm chilling performance...the songs they sang were so tender and sweet that it will give you goosebumps when you listen and watch them....Landslide, white trash wedding, wide open spaces, top of the world, cowboy take me away were some of the better songs they performed....the best part of the dvd was when they play wideopen spaces and cowboy take me away, the crowd really got into it and at some parts you can hear the crowd sing louder than natalie during these songs..it was really amazing to see the crowd feeling IT....
when natalie introduces the band and her dad its pretty funny some of the things she says and the interaction that goes on with them....
get this DVD and play it - you will enjoy the sounds as well as the sights....awesome DVD.
Rating: Summary: Better Than The New York City Episode Review: This is a great intimate concert the Dixie Chicks did to promote their HOME album. It features all 12 tracks from that album, in the same sequence as the album tracklisting, as well as four of their other well known hits. HOME was a more bluegrass sounding album than their other ones, and it calls for a stripped back performance, which they give wonderfully. No glitz or glam, just the instruments, the wonderful harmonies, and heart. They sing other hits such as "Goodbye Earl", "Sin Wagon", "Cowboy Take Me Away" and "Wide Open Spaces". Favorite performances include "More Love", "A Home", "Travelin Soldier", "Landslide" and more.
Rating: Summary: Awesome entertainment! Review: I get goose bumps listening to Edith Piaf sing in a language of which I know barely a dozen words. And I choke up watching Hibari Misora (Japan's greatest Enka singer) pour her heart out in an unfathomable idiom, anchored in a culture I only vaguely understand. Great music knows no genre. And on this DVD, the Dixie Chicks make great music. Country-schmountry. I don't know what they did or didn't say about America or Iraq or politicians. I gave up trying to filter my movie-watching and music-listening through a political screen years ago. Too many people were annoying me with their opinions, and I was missing out on too much art. Artistic talent and intelligence are not the same thing and frequently do not reside in the same person, and to look to artists for political views is one of the cankers of this era. Enjoy this DVD. It's amazing. And that is enough.
