Summary: Yessongs: pioneering progressive rock on video
Review: I loved Yessongs the first time I heard it in the mid seventies. When I knew that a video also existed, I began to look for it. It was a long search. Now that I got it, it's a treasure, although I expected that the movie had all of the songs of the records. I also found that some songs in the video are not the same versions of the records. A little dissapointing thing is the picture and sound quality (compare it with Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii, from almost the same year). Anyway, the video is an important progressive rock testament.

Summary: The Essential Yes
Review: I remember going to see this concert in the theater when I was merely 12 years old. I was so captivated by the tight orchestration that the band provided, I went to see it almost on a daily basis (summer time) while it played. From there I collected what Yes had recorded by that time (Close to the Edge, Time and a Word etc..). A very tough sell to friends at that time as they were not a "radio based" group, but Yes certainly proved that there was much more to rock than what was being portrayed on the radio which offered such limited access due to music length.I have to say that the line-up for this concert is what I truly consider to be Yes. Rick Wakeman simply cannot be touched and the same holds true for Steve Howe and Alan White. Which on a side note, Alan did join the group while the tour was on the road and he filled in without flaw. I had the pleasure of seeing Yes in 1979 (the round stage) and again in 1984. By far the most compelling show was the '79 show which opened with Siberian Katru and went straight into Heart of the Sunrise (same as the CD version of this tour). Granted that there is not mega effects (like say Pink Floyd's Pulse), but we have to remember that this was the early 70's. For true Yes fans, this is the DVD to own. Trust me on this. If you like Yes, you will truly appreciate this DVD.

Summary: Amazing Band/Bad DVD
Review: I should start by saying I love Yes, have seen them more than ten times in concert over the years and have even had the pleasure of meeting Jon Anderson. They're amazingly talented and they do a great show. Having said all of that, I wish this DVD represented that. Even though this original performance was great, the DVD was poor. The movie that I saw in a theater so many years ago sure looked and sounded better than this DVD. Yes, it was shot in the early 1970s, but "Woodstock" was shot in 1969 and it looked a lot better than this. This print is not very good, there are scratches in the film they used to transfer it and the audio is muddy. Sometimes the video is even out of sync with the audio. Jon and the gang should have insisted that this get a lot more work or not even be released on DVD. The only thing that sounded really clean was the video production company's opening animation that precedes the actual movie. If you're a diehard Yes fan, you might enjoy having this, but it was not the great movie experience I remember.

Summary: How could this be released ?
Review: I waited a long time to buy this and it was going to be a treasure as I had seen the band live many times in their early years, including their Marquee residence every Tuesday night (entry fee approx $1 or 6/6d in English currency). What a disappointing video and the sound is not much better. Having recently purchased Keys to Ascension and appreciated the quality of production, I was amazed a band with such integrity would allow this third rate DVD to be released. Come on now, lets get the band on a soundstage like Eagles, Mac and Fogerty and showcase the excellent musicanship that they are still capable of. It will be a winner. As for Yessongs, I would save your money. In fact it was so poor I traded this DVD in, it simply was depressing to watch given the memories I had of watching this band.

Review: I'm a big Yes fan since the early 70s, the video of a concert during 1973 is excellant especially the guitar work of Steve Howe, he improvised quite often from the regular playing on CDs, I was even more impressed with him than before. A must for Yes fans!

Summary: If the sound was good it wouldn't matter -- but ...
Review: I've been a long fan of Yes. Steve Howe is one of the greatest guitar players ever, however, this DVD sounds TERRIBLE! I acutally went and re-checked my wirering to make sure something wasn't wrong. The video is not good either. The camera is out of focus or SOMETHING! Too bad. This is Yes at their prime. For you guitar players, it's worth it just to watch the master at work. But for everyone else -- don't buy it -

Summary: I'd take the DVD over the VHS version
Review: I've read some mixed reviews of the DVD vs. the VHS. So I popped both in and sync'd them up. After flipping back and forth, there's no discernable difference between the two - in regards to both sound quality and picture quality - and certainly, the DVD is no worse than the VHS. Both were taken from film reels as the originals are probably long lost. Edge goes to the DVD since it offers track selection and the trailers (not that they're much of anything though), and chances are your DVD player is wired to your stereo system.
This is a very young looking Yes filmed in their prime at London's Rainbow theatre in late 1972. Not many chances of seeing this classic concert. So until a way-back machine is invented, settle for the DVD.

Review: If this was to be the same as the Album, I think this would be a video to remember. Although the songs and pics are great, I do feel this video is put together in a hurry. No comparission with The Song Remains the Same for example, from that other Atlantic band. Or to their later Keys to Ascension. For YesFans a must. For music lovers a posible hit, but more likely a miss

Summary: Better life through digital -- Yessongs' rehabilitation
Review: If you are one of those avid Yes fans like me that suffered through the bad sound and poor picture quality of the VHS tape of the Yessongs concert, you will be so happy with this DVD. I was reluctant to buy the DVD because it seemed that all the sonic and video flaws would probably only be more pronounced in DVD. Was I ever wrong! Through digital magic, the concert has been remastered and sounds and looks beautiful. If you love Yes, you'll love this DVD.
