Summary: The Dance is a monster homerun in the music industry.
Review: As a quasi-fan of Fleetwood Mac, I happened to catch the end of The Dance on public television a couple of months ago. I was fascinated not so much by the sound (I was only hearing it in stereo), but by the fun Mick Fleetwood was having on the drums. He was absolutely fantastic. The others former members of the band, Stevie Nicks, Christie McVie, John McVie, and Lindsey Buckingham were absolutely enjoying their reunion of sorts. It really showed. Well, that short clip made me go out and buy the DVD. When I watched the concert in its entirety, I was in awe. The 5.1 soundtrack is awesome, Mick's drum playing is one of the best performances I've heard, and Lindsey's guitar playing is, well, a work of art. The vocals of Stevie and Christie are timeless. If you haven't seen or heard this concert, do yourself a favor and buy the DVD version. You won't be disappointed.

Review: I can't exactly remember when I received the video...either as a birthday or Christmas present, but my son had purchased it for me. Then a funny thing happened. I sat it up on a shelf then promptly forgot about it...for almost two years! Why? I really don't know. I liked Fleetwood Mac, at least most of their stuff, but when they broke up it was just another sad link in a long chain of bands that have disappeared from view. And maybe I didn't watch it because this breakup seemed to be a rather nasty one (Buckingham & Nicks, and the McVies).Last summer I was doing some spring cleaning (yeah I was late), when I came across the video (still in its shrinkwrap) and decided, what the heck, and put it on as background while I continued cleaning. What I was not prepared for was the heartfelt performances, full of life and energy, and superbly on key and tempo. Buckingham's performance especially made me stop and take notice. I guess I had forgotten how talented he truly was. Needless to say, I didn't stray from the TV, and "The Dance" wasn't used as background. I sat down, turned it up, and enjoyed it thoroughly. One could not only sense, but actually see the old tensions within the members of the group, and this actually added to the film, rather than detracting from it. While Stevie Nicks' voice isn't as rich as it once was, she can still belt it out. I found Mick Fleetwood's performance to be rather funny actually, but also powerful. As far as Christie McVie, she still has that golden throat and is smooth as ever. For those who were Fleetwood Mac fans, this should be on your priority list. I even think the kids will sit up and take notice. Between 1 and 10, "The Dance" gets a solid 8. It's nice to have something lasting to remember, and I'm happy that I rediscovered this wonderful group. Sadly, the days of the great bands seem all but over.

Review: The Mac are in incredible form in this phenomenal reunion concert. Awesome on DVD. It is even great music for your kids (if you have any) - it is inspiring and emotional. Ten thumbs up(five per hand)! I laughed, I cried, I pointed, gesticulated and smiled.

Review: The group has lost little besides hair over the years. This concert brings it all back for me. The bit of awkwardness over their personal problems is quickly extinguished by the music. This is a well produced disk. I look forward to more in this genre.

Summary: Terrific performance...just got better on DVD!
Review: When I heard that Fleetwood Mac was getting back together to do their The Dance PBS performance, I must admit that I was very skeptical and disinterested. That attitude changed when I saw their performance. Within a week, I had purchased the music CD, still feeling like it was more for nostalgia's sake than anything else. Nevertheless, the CD has maintained the #1 slot in my car's changer ever since, this despite having gotten a lot of serious competition. When this performance came out in DVD, I didn't jump all all over it. I picked it up almost on impulse when I noticed that I was getting tired of watching only movies with on my DVD player. After many subsequent viewings, I am happy to report that I am still very pleased with the purchase. Fleetwood Mac is really an amazing band in a lot of ways. Their music definitely holds up, as does the talent that made them famous. Two elements of this DVD always get my attention. First, it has great production quality. It is well made, well edited, and the sound quality well produced. The other thing that I notice when I watch this performance is...well, the performance. Fleetwood Mac puts on a heck of a show. Lindsey Buckingham's talent and inspiration not only take center stage at just the right times, but also give way to Stevie Nicks' haunting vocals in just the right way. Buckingham's guitar work, as well as the way it is showcased in this production, is as strong as you are going to see. It is easy to see on DVD how he gets so much soul and intensity into his music. The same can be said for Stevie Nicks, but in quite a different way. Their styles make for an interesting contrast as it is played out in The Dance. Mic Fleetwood's theatrics were a hoot to watch too. I had never seen a drummer make lead guitar solo faces before. I found it captivating. I found there to be just the right mix of new stuff along with their classics as well. Super groups don't get to be super for nothing, but a lot of them sure don't perform like the used to. This is one cool dance that I can highly recommend. It is still a special treat to put this DVD on, crank up the home theater system, and snuggle up with my sweetie with the lights off!

Summary: The reason I bought a DVD player
Review: This, literally, was the reason I got into DVD. I saw this concert on PBS, found out it was on DVD, and bought a DVD player because of it. This has become our most watched DVD of all, even after countless watchings, and we have never tired of it. What else do you want? Truly Fleetwood.

Review: To me, this group remains a reference when speaking about american music. Great collection of songs. It's a pity that Stevie Nicks lost part of her voice capacity. Image quality is fair, but NTSC is always below the european PAL system, which has a higher definition. I agree with other reviewers that Digital 5.1 sound of this DVD is not crystal-clear, like Eagles or the last Sting DTS CDs for example, but you forgive because of the overall quality of the songs themselves.

Summary: A DVD concert video done right...
Review: This is as the Eagles, Steely Dan and others have done. Choose a soundstage, a small live audience and rock.... The video was clear, with multiple camera angles. The audio was superb as well. I watched it in 5.1 and 2.0, and I prefer the AC-3 version of 5.1. Once again, the production was well thought out, these people can still put on a show...

Review: Fantastic DVD, if you are a Fleetwood fan this is a must. Linsay Buckingham is magic on guitar. He absolutly leaves you inspired with his energy and passion. They sound better than ever.

Summary: Five Stars to Warner Bros.
Review: Like Ivan, and fortuitously, Fleetwood Mac's 'The Dance' also became the first DVD in my collection. As a recent production - rather than a 60's re-hash - it caught my eye. It had been a specially arranged 1997 production at Warner Bros Studios, and thus the music is remarkably sharp. I was simply bowled over. Both the quality of the sound and photography is truly astounding, and is certainly a fantastic advertisement for technology and in particular DVD and Digital Dolby. The group certainly appeared totally dedicated to their reunion, proven with quality new material - and seemed to be enjoying the experience as much as the audience. Buckingham and Fleetwood both earned their fees for the night and if you watch closely you will even glimpse a smile from the perpetually aloof Christine McVie - ex-wife of bass guitarist John - towards the end, when the brass ensemble had ensembled. And the diminutive Nicks was just great. A great DVD to start out with - experience it yourself !
