Summary: Classic Roy ...Just Plain Classic
Review: It was wonderful to watch this amazing group of big talents just be there to support Roy's performance and not feed their own egos. The guitar work between Springsteen and Burton challenged you to keep your foot still -- turn up the volume!! If you have to ask why this concert is in black and white (or wonder that because it is, it was recorded in the 50's!!), you are missing the point -- this is nostalgia at its very best and a long-overdue homage by big talent to a bigger one who never really got his due. If you like Roy (or even if you're just an ole' rocker who appreciates quality), you GOTTA have this in your collection -- you gotta have it even if you don't HAVE a collection!

Summary: Absolutely a must own!
Review: Simply put, a perfect concert DVD. I could blabber on and on about each title on the disc and how expertly crafted Roy Orbison's classic music is, but if you are considering this DVD for purchase you no doubt already know about the songs. What stands out next would be the live re-interpretation of Roy's music featuring an all-star supporting band and vocalists. The song arrangements and musical scoring are perfect. Perfect with the exception of one of the concerts lighter moments; an inpromtu keyboard "solo" by Tom Waits in the song "Ooby Dooby" that goes a little of base, which is followed by the amused glances of the other members of the ensemble. Technically the DVD is a total hit. The DTS 5.1 surround is awesome. The mix is top notch and as a listener you are missing nothing. The classic black and white film in which the concert was shot is a very nice touch, and I can't imagine the show presented any other way. But it is Roy Orbison's Vocal performance that will lead you to near tears...and I mean that. I get chills every time I listen to and watch this DVD. I shake my head at the range he displays and wonder in amazement how this man did it. We should all feel grateful that we were left with this testament of Roy Orbison's legacy. The world lost Roy Orbison not long after this performance, and it is a performance that defines Roy Orbison.

Summary: Simply the Greatest Rock Singer of All Time!
Review: What can I say? Roy has not been with us for 13 years now, and yet, his music will always be considered by his peers to be the ultimate example of what rock and roll was intended to be. I have attended hundreds of concerts over the years, and unlike the average fan, I don't give a "standing O" unless I feel it was truly deserved. I was luck enough to see Roy in person, just a few months before he left us, and I stood up after EVERY song! This DVD has all of the songs I saw him perform live, and the all-star supporting group makes this absolutely the best concert performed anytime, anywhere. The sound is incredible, and just brings to the fore a voice which will never be duplicated.

Summary: Dream You! Orbison and Friends
Review: This video is incredibly good; I have had the tape version for years. What musician wouldn't want to be on that stage! I liked everything and have been an Orbison fan for years--a James Burton fan for equally as long. To me, the very best number on this, at least it's on the video tape version, is the last one. They don't announce it, its not in the credits, and I've never been able to find it anywhere else. It would seem that it is called "Dream You", as those are the main theme words. Not only is Orbison incredible, but so is Burton. He takes off on an improvised lead solo that only Burton could create, with that slight mix of country blended with rock. He covers the fretboard, scaling octaves up and down, making it look easy and totally natural, which it is not, and this I know because I learned how to play it myself from watching and listening to the tape. I think its one of my favorite lead guitar licks ever. I wish I could find a studio-recorded version of that song, and find out if Roy wrote it.

Summary: Warning: the Laserdisc version is better!
Review: This is an outstanding performance, and any rock fan should have this DVD. But if you are lucky enough to have a laserdisc player and can find the earlier laserdisc release of this concert, you will find a far superior mix of some of the songs. The extraordinary guitar duel between Bruce Springsteen and James Burton (lead guitarist in Elvis Presley's band) on "Pretty Woman" is the highlight of the LD version; whoever remixed the song for the DVD edition inexplicably faded this into the background, completely ruining a great moment in rock history. Still worth getting the DVD edition, but would have been far better if some (bad person) hadn't messed up the mix.

Summary: If you only buy one music DVD this year
Review: If you only buy one music DVD this year, this is the one to buy. Classical photography in black and white, wonderful music, great artists, this DVD is a pleasure to watch and a treat for your ears.

Summary: Not much to say other than buy it...
Review: ... if you like Roy or this genre of music. Springsteen et al clearly show their admiration of this incredible artist. Sound quality is superb and the fact that it is black and white did not bother me at all as the images are sharp.

Summary: I Liked this a lot
Review: I thought this was done very tastefull, the other guests showed him some respect by not trying to out preform him and stayed somewhat back just enough to let him be Roy, it was a great tribute to him and I really enjoyed it, brought back some good memories. Good to see Jennifer Warnes in there. Doug

Summary: Seeing it live didn't look and sound this great!
Review: The DTS is absolutely brilliant whether you are an Orbison fan or not, it is hard to top this spectacular recording. A nice collection of Orbison's masterful style enhanced with a superstar ensemble performing with him. The six channel sound is crisp, clear and makes viewing this on my home theatre system well worth owning this dvd. The video is obviously b&w which adds an artistic mystique to the whole performance which is enhanced by the lighting and film artifact that is added to the video. The picture is awesome with camera shots that make you feel like a special part of this event. This will remain one of the crown jewels of my dvd collection.
