Rating: Summary: Okay, but a little dated. Review: I own this in the VHS version that is quite a few years older. This is nice because you get some interviews with the elusive Blackmore, and there iw a nice version of "Hush." However, they all take themselves a littel too seriously, and to hear Joe Lynn Turner talk about making his own footsteps in the group, (He was fired after only one album and tour) is in retrospect, rather funny. There are some nice clips on this, but you can get more on the Machine Head DVD which catches a lot more of the creative process and does, in fact, have better footage. A nice primer on Deep Purple, but nothing outstanding.
Rating: Summary: a very good documentary Review: This documentary was made in 1990 or 1991 im not sure. It is basically a biography. Has a lot of interviews from Jon Lord, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Roger Glover, Joe Lynn Turner, stage crew. But no Coverdale and Hughes. They talk about stuff from the days since the first album right up to Slaves and masters. It features rare live performances (mostly clipped) of Black Night, Speed King, Hush (very old), Child in time, A video of King of Dreams, Highway star, from California Jammin': The Mule, Smoke on the water, Burn. Also how Ritchie destroys his guitar and sets it on fire. All of that footage is really good. The performances from California Jammin', Strange kind of woman, Black night, Child in Time are awesome. It has a lot of interesting stuff. Really good for die-hard and casual fans. I have this on VHS. I don't think DVD version has any extras I wish it did though but im not sure.
