Summary: great but tampered with
Review: As the others correctly state, this is an essential purchase if you want to see a classic encapsulation of rock, blues, jazz and soul in an era where such different streams were celebrated, their fusion expected and no-one knew what exploitable demographics were, or at least didn't place these in priority over music. Roland Kirk steals the show for me.

... especially as Led Zeppelin's performance is missing from the original film, at least on my version. Was this because of the 2003 release of the Zep DVD, and the inclusion of the Supershow performance? I assume so.

And there's no original commentary, which certainly added to the whole atmosphere, cool little comments such as 'This, ladies and gentlemen, is as good as it gets.'

A contrast between two eras: that of white-hot experimentation, and one which puts compromise first, especially in regard to marketing. Hmmm.

Summary: An absolutely atrocious DVD.
Review: I cannot even begin to write an objective review of the material itself, because the video and audio quality are so incredibly poor that I was unable to view more than two minutes before I turned it off. An absolutely appalling transfer. Perhaps the worst 5.1 audio I have ever heard. DO NOT BUY THIS DISC.

Summary: Lost treasure!! Buy it!!
Review: I have been waiting for this to come out on DVD. It was available on Japanese laserdisk and video a few years ago. It is a video of a concert held in the late sixties in a warehouse or hanger in Britain. The cast of musicians is amazing. Colosseum ( tragically all but forgotten in the US)with Dick Heckstall Smith and John Hiseman, a throw together band with Stephen Stills, Buddy Miles and jack Bruce performing Black Queen, performances by Roland Kirk, the Modern Jazz Quartet and others. A highlight is Eric Clapton (ala Blind Faith era) on a Gibson Firebird getting cut by Buddy Guy. I'm giving it 4 stars only because of the slight hippy visual effects (not overly done) and relative poor audio quality of the video (which might have been cleaned up on the DVD version) as well as the omission of the Led Zeppelin track (included on the 2003 Led Zep DVD collection). If you want to treat yourself to a unique jam session, check this out.

Summary: A bit of background re Eric Clapton's performance
Review: This concert was filmed on March 17-18, 1969 at Stines Television Studios in Middlesex England. Eric Clapton was right in the middle of recordings for Blind Faith. Interesting that Jack Bruce is onstage with Clapton just months after Cream's breakup on Everything's Gonna be Alright, which features Clapton and Guy's blazing solos.
An excellent concept but a flawed movie, as it was poorly recorded, syncronized and edited.

Summary: NOT the original version
Review: this is a priceless time capsule. the lineup of musicians is covered by other reviewers--in my opinion, this film and event is most valuable for the Colosseum, Roland Kirk, MJQ, Buddy Miles, and Buddy Guy performances . . . but all of it is wonderful and deserves the highest rating.

Beware: this is NOT the original 79-minute film that I purchased in 1987 on VHS. Led Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused"--sequenced between Roland Kirk's "Primitive Ohio" and Buddy Miles' "Texas Blues"--is MISSING from this DVD. Owning the great new Zep DVD partially solves this problem, but we're left with an *incomplete* Supershow! DVD audio is scratchy/hissy, especially noticeable during quiet tunes like MJQ's "Visitors From Venus". the back cover claims a 4:3 aspect ratio when it's presented in 1.66:1 widescreen.

Review: This review is from a person who has an audiophile stereo system & a Master's Thesis in Music Therapy. Forget all the bad feedback... What an incredible concert! Immense talents like Buddy Guy, Roland Kirk, Buddy Miles, Colosseum (in their only video I'm aware of & note that the guitar player is now with the new Zombies), Modern Jazz Quartet (again a rare video performance), Jack Bruce & others. This is an honest to goodness incredible show by the greats of music. All stars "shine" here. You won't regret it...TREAT YOURSELF NOW!
