Summary: Its simply a CLASSIC !!
Review: Never in the history of the world could any one-man show have hoped to deliver the impact that Elvis somehow achieved during this one great performance. In fact, the only way my enjoyment of this show could ever have been improved was through advances in the technology used for the reproduction at the time. Until now, I have suffered frequent anxiety whilst watching recordings (originally broadcast for TV) that I copied onto home VHS video tape. I shall suffer no more !! The engineers have done a truly superb job of re-mixing the original sound to present to us in vibrant 5.1 DVD format.

It a pity this recording isn't marketed for the UK and Europe, as I suspect that lots of people will miss out through not being bold enough to take the risk that I and others have done, in purchasing a product that is essentially formatted for Region 1 in the United States

I say to you fellow Euro sceptics "Go ahead, take a chance, trust me it's be worth it". If on the off-chance the DVD fails to play, its actually worth ordering a U.S. player just for the privelege of witnessing this very special production.

Summary: His best since the Comeback
Review: This is probably the best condition the public saw Elvis in the seventies. His voice is strong, he looks thin, and he chose new material for this concert. He darts on the stage to sing "See See Rider," then goes straight into "Burning Love"--phenominal. Other highlights are "American Trilogy," which is always a beautiful number, "My Way," and I applaud him for not having to read the words (as he did on several other shows), and "Hound Dog," always classic, where he wipes sweat off his face in the middle of it, blocking out some of the words. I bought this video about a week after I bought the Alternate Aloha, and just look at how much he improved in two days! His hair is shorter, you can tell he's more comfortable in his singing, he knows the words to "Burning Love," and does more songs than in the Alternate Aloha. This was also the last TV special filmed in his lifetime ("Elvis in Concert" aired in October '77.) So for Elvis fans, this and the '68 Comeback are the two most highly reccomended videos.

I also recently aquired a copy (on VCD) of this show that contains the three songs that were deleted from this video. What a real treat for any fan to be able to see the whole uncut Aloha concert. This is highly recommended!

Summary: At his optimal best, before the decline
Review: Some 1 billion people reportedly tuned in to this worldwide broadcast in 1973 when Elvis, then very likely at the pinnacle of his best, conquered Hawaii. Few, if any, in the global audience could find any criticism with Elvis then and his truly spellbinding stage presence. Among the numbers performed are the early Elvis classics and the more substantive later ones like "What Now My Love" (which no one before or since has managed with such power), "Early Morning Rain," "Welcome to My World" (a tremendous compliment to its original artist, country icon Eddie Arnold), Elvis' signature "My Way" and the stirring "Battle Hymn of the Republic." True to his committment to give his best, Elvis gets no less from his superb backup singers and musicians and they, combined with Elvis' magnificent voice, give us nothing but their best. Though 30 years old now, neither Elvis nor his performance here seems dated or out of vogue. He and it are as entertaining and moving now as then. This is the immortal Elvis, the one we have the most comfort in remembering. The forever Elvis fan (and there are many, many of them) undoutedly has this video in their musicial libraries. For all others, it's a great addition.

Summary: ALOHA, ELVIS!
Review: Presley fans will relish these this DVD featuring the King at his best, in the historic 1973 TV special. The DVD boasts newly remastered sound and video, as well as the entire concert, plus five additional tunes. It's (almost) as good as the show itself!

Summary: Sorrowful
Review: It is very sad to watch. While the songs are good, and he looks marvelous, it is obvious that he needs a break from something.
But it is an awesome sight to see nonetheless. His hair is perfectly sexy (as usual).

Summary: Not Prime Elvis But, Well Elvis!
Review: I have seen this performance so many times. You can tell Elvis is anxious throughout the concert. He also seems very stiff. When you take a look at the wonderfull restored version of "Elvis that's the way it is" the difference is incredible. That was Elvis at his prime, he looked, sounded, and moved great! His sense of humor also came through. The hawaii concert was definitely a harbinger of things to come. That being said Elvis still sounds great and his backup band is as tight as ever.

Summary: Electric till this day!
Review: Nearly 30 years ago Elvis Presley cut some weight and performed via satellite in Hawaii in what many still consider the greatest live concert ever. At the climax of an incredible career, Elvis struts and grunts the classics that made him the "King"! His aggresive versions of "Burning Love", You Gave me a Mountain", and "Blue Suede Shoes" are great renditions. To me, though, it is his performance of "Suspicious Minds" and "American Trilogy" that make this DVD/VHS what it is: ELectric!
