Review: i have to tell you that i've seen many of concerts but this one is the best i've seen. i saw this on television on channel 13 and said to my self i have to get this one. but i am waiting for it to come out on dvd. it doesn't pay to buy it on vhs. dvd has great picture and surround sound.

Summary: "Great" Doesn't Even Come Close to a Fair Description!
Review: A Simon & Garfunkel fan since 1965, I was thrilled to see this concert on HBO back in '81. Everyone who has reviewed it has said the music was fantastic, and it was. It was a reunion concert that left the audience completely satisfied. My reason for writing this review is really to comment on S & G's actions towards each other. They never spent much time looking at each other in ANY concert that I ever saw, so I didn't expect them to do so in Central Park. Some other reviewers have mentioned that, and stated, essentially, that they let petty bitterness show through. I never had that impression at any point. Several smiles were exchanged between them, as well as some of what I presumed to have been friendly comments between songs. During The Boxer, Art Garfunkel put his arm around Paul's shoulders a couple times...and let's not forget the easy way they each slung an arm around the other at the end of the show. I think they were, and are, true professionals who have more class than to display personal problems to their audience(s).

Summary: The Concert of Concerts
Review: Undeniably one of the premier duos of the 60's, Simon & Garfunkel's Reunion Concert occurred at the prime of their solo careers. As such it was a radical departure from most R & R duos that split and would not appear together until the end of thier careers. This Concert may be the best ever given by R & R superstars and rates with me higher than the Bee Gees great 1989 Melbourne concert, my other personal listening favorite.

Review: I loved Simon and Garfunkel, A Concert in Central Park. It features great songs-mostly written by Paul Simon-and both voices are wonderful. Some of the many songs I loved were, "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," "Bookends", "The Boxer", "Homeward Bound", and "The Sound of Silence". During some of the songs, your toe can't stop tapping, and during others, the music seems to flow into you. There is also a great backup band. The concert is good for any ages-all of my family loved it. This would make a great gift, and is a wonderful tape.

Summary: One of my all-time favourites!
Review: This is one video that I watch over and over again. I wish they would release it on DVD, as I am seriously concerned about wearing out my copy on video. It would be a great choice for DVD anyway, as they could include the parts of the concert that were cut for VHS, and I'm sure somewhere there are interviews with the pair about reuniting after their somewhat bitter split. In any format, this is a must-have for any Simon and Garfunkel fan; Art Garfunkel's vocals are phenomenal, the music sounds great, and their rappoire with the audience is fun to watch.

Summary: A musical masterpeice
Review: Truly one of the rare great concerts of all time! 90mins of pure enjoyment for those who appreciate talented song writers and musicians. Art Garfunkels voice never faulters and Paul Simon offers the perfect harmony. But a crying shame the color has not yet been digitally restored and the audio remixed in 5.1 channel surround. Then and only then, will it be a true collectors item. Well worth adding to your collection anyway.

Summary: I can't tell who is who!
Review: The concert begins with then mayor of New York, Hon. Eward I. Koch coming on the stage and saying "ladies and gentlemen Simon & Garfunkel". The first song they do is Mrs. Robinson and follow that with Homeward Bound. I can tell as the concert grew on that it became dark. The day this show was taped was Stepmeber 19, 1981. And I wasn't alive when this was done. I was born Setmber 7, 1983. I can't tell which is Simon and which is Garfunkel. But I know which one is Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper is. If you were lucky enough to go to this concert when it is performed, but you didn't have a good view of Simon & Garfunkel. I am sure that there was people that didn't have a good view of Simon & Garfunkel. But if you were thier and enjoyed the concert you can get this on tape.

Summary: A little painful to watch
Review: There is no doubt that the music is great. No doubt about it. When you listen to the CD. But when you watch the video, you can tell they still had a vendetta against each other. You can tell this like in Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard when Paul won't look at Art or when they come back on after the Boxer to do Old Friends, Garfunkel looks Pissed!! The music is great and I would only recomend getting the video for two reasons, Number one it has the first live version of the Late Great Johnny Ace, and you get an extra version of Late in the Evening, but it kind of painful to watch them, I rather just listen to the CD

Review: Il video ovviamente risente degli anni, e per questo oggi può apparire non realizzato accuratamente, ma la "semplicità" delle immagini rispecchia la "semplicità" delle canzoni di S&G: colpisce diritto al cuore e ti coinvolge pienamente. Io consiglio vivamente questa VHS perché é un documento: la fotografia di un evento a cui chiunque vorrebbe aver partecipato, sia un fan del duo S&G che un amante della bella musica. Senza fronzoli: viva la grande musica!

Summary: What's not to like
Review: I don't agree with any of the quibbles with this video. My impression was that, while certainly it is clear there is tension between Paul and Art, both put their heart and soul into this performance. The versions of Sounds of Silence, Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme, American Tune, America, and other songs are fabulous. The back up band is outstanding. Most remarkable of all is how Paul and Art, even though they rework the rhythm of many of the songs, sing in absolute synch without even looking at each other, as if they are two halves of the same soul. Both men are in fine voice, the audience is totally enthralled, and Paul and Art even appear to warm up to each other towards the end. I could have done without the reprise of Late in the Evening and the Simon song Late Great Johnny Ace (my own quibbles!), but these are trivial in the context of this great concert.
