Summary: Simply the Best Music DVD ever Created
Review: Yes, as a life long fan of Roy Orbisons dating back to the late 1950s I am biased. But, I also am a fan of many many past and present day groups and individual artists with well over a hundred music DVDs to prove it. To truly appreciate this DVD you really need to have a high quality sound system--preferably with seven speakers and great amps. The people who consider themselves purists because the separation has been altered for 5.1 digital presentation -- just don't get it.The music is simply awesome and having attended many of Roy's concerts when he was alive, I have no doubt if Roy was still alive that he would agree that it is a faithful presentation of the energy and emotion of his music. The original filming of this DVD in black and white was, in my opinion, perfect for the setting, the music and the artist--and is a piece of art as well as music history.

Review: I will disagree with everyone else on the planet on this one and I do like Roy.
As good as the band was there should have been more sparks in this DVD rather than almost none. The sparks that were there seemed to me almost scripted.
I got the distinct impression that the set was completely re-recorded. If that was the case all blemishes can be removed. Now, of course, with that line up one would hardly think that there would be a mistake. So we might not know what happened afterwards or, in this case, how much happened.
Yes, the sound was great but all films go in for a mix and one would hope that the producers would take the time needed to make this one sound good.
So yes it was/is a historic film but it does, at least for me, raise a few questions.

Summary: Brilliant... Simply Brilliant!
Review: On my first viewing of this concert I sat awestruck. I simply could not move. Roy Orbison would have to have one of the most evocative voices of all time. I find myself watching this DVD over and over again. As well as just putting it on to listen to the music alone.It's great to see Roy being honoured by some great names in music. He certainly deserved it. Whatever your taste in music you will have to admit that this man is on of the all time greats. A perfect performance.

Review: This is a superb DVD with The Big O and friends, the sound quality is just fantastic, it is just a pity there is no colour. It is a shame he is gone, thanks for the memories Roy and all your great music. Highly recommended.

Summary: DVD - Roy Orbison - Black & White Night
Review: I owned this as a double album vinyl when it was first released, and wore it out over the years. I was looking to replace it with a cd, but as that format wasn't available, bought the dvd version. This recording will undoubtedly become one of the classics, with its moody black & white filming, cast of stars and of course, the Big O himself. And he has never sounded better. No production flaws, impeccable sound quality and material that must be the best Roy ever did.
A must have for any Roy Orbison collection.

Would advise the DVD version -- The sound mix is much better; everyone can be heard, and the pictures have been cleaned up tremendously.

Review: IF EVER THERE WERE A ROY ORBISON ALBUM THAT A PERSON "MUST" HAVE IN HIS/HER ROY ORBISON COLLECTION, THEN THIS WOULD BE THE DEFINITIVE ALBUM TO HAVE. ROY AND HIS ACCOMPANYING FRIENDS, PUT ON A SHOW THAT BRINGS YOU TO YOUR FEET WHEN WATCHING HIS PERFORMANCE, WHILE IN THE CONFINES OF YOUR HOME.

Summary: The Very Best Music DVD Released
Review: The DVD release of this one *IS* the legacy of Roy Orbison. A number of reviewers comment on the absolutely spectacular 5.1 and DTS mixes for this release and I couldn't agree more....this is not only arguably the best DVD yet released, the remix was done from 1987 tapes and really shows why it is worth considering re-buying your favorite music when remixes are released. Regarding the black and white format.....it is sharp and clear with excellent video mixes.....you are usually on the right person at the right time throughout and the fact that it was shot at LA's Coconut Grove makes it even better. And now the music....ah, the music....of coure it has Pretty Woman, Cryin', Dream Baby. But what is spectacular is Roy's delivery of Blue Bayou, the sailing lyric in It's Over, the rhythm section on Candy Man, the fun in redoing his 1st hit from Sun Studios...Ooby Dooby...there isn't a track on this one that won't find a special place in your heart. It simply cannot be said any other way.....this is what Roy was always all about....and you've got Springsteen, Lang, Souther, Riatt, T-Bone, Costello, Browne......all to vouch for it!

Summary: The Absolute Essence of Cool....
Review: I am a member of that star-crossed generation that was 15 years-old when they saw "A Hard Day's Night." The raw power of the Beatles and their music defined "cool" for me and started me on the bumpy road to being a bar band musician. Little did I know at the time that ground zero for 'cool' was a wonderful artist who was already up and running with a voice from God and beautiful, almost cinematic songs. Roy Orbison simply strapped on a guitar, stood there in front of a microphone and....sang. That was all he had to do to bring down the house, and I did not realize that fact until the first time I watched the "Black and White" concert filmed at the Coconut Grove. Goosebumps and tears flowed freely for me, for I had never seen or heard a more shatteringly emotional body of music. I grinned alot, too, as master Telecaster jockey James Burton traded licks with a surprisingly good Bruce Springsteen, and even Roy himself bent the strings of his Gibson with the essence of 'twang'. The gals singing backup were simply the very best singers in the business--the killer crew of Ms. Raitt, Warner and Lang...If I could have been up there playing with Roy on that stage, in that company of artists, 30 years of bar band gigs would finally have some meaning. I feel that God granted Roy this performance for all of us to see and hear him for what he truly was--a legend and an icon for an era when music was still really good, and 'cool' did not require on-stage histronics, so-called alternate life-styles and stupid clothes.
