Summary: through a haze the light
Review: A very useful insight into the spirit and substance of spirutuality , good music , and freedom. A glaring contrast to the disconsonant world that we chose to live in . This movie brings alive the memories and the remains of another time , another place , and another mind , to say the least . It makes me sad but also hopeful for another chance at that kind of peace , excitement , a certain buzz.A must see , you need to be experienced.

Summary: Rainbow Bridge - Featuring Jimi Hendrix
Review: Any real Hendrix fan savors whatever video footage of the master guitarist that exists, therefore, this movie is essential. Rainbow Bridge is a disjointed amateur film to say the very least. The quality of it matches a typical college film effort ot the time. Mitch Mitchell panned it, so enough said. However, seeing Hendrix on film, especially in 1970 has intrigue. Reviewers often name this as his last concert, but they're wrong. He performed at least two more concerts and those were the disappointing Isle of Wight and the mysterious Isle of Fehrman/Germany in September 1970. I've often wondered what happened to the bizarre cast of Rainbow Bridge. Can these people actually be part of "the system" today? How can it be? Whatever happened to the dude that cut open the surfboard to get the "stash"? The dude playing the flute at Halekaela, what is his deal today? Pat Hartley, is she working for Dell? As far as Hendrix and his performance, I love his clothes and short cropped hair, but the soundtrack doesn't completely match the film. Hendrix playing in the Hawaiian volcanoes! He dies one month later; God how friggin' weird. I'd like to visit Maui and see where the concert was held. Does anybody know where in the park it was? Email me: sterrett2002@yahoo.com

Summary: Thankfully mine is on DVD
Review: As numerous others have pointed out, lots and lots of absurd hippie self justification backed by some half way decent footage of Jimi and the band playing. At least on DVD I am able to skip (or shudder, listen) to the self absorbed babbling crap that we all did way back when. Reminds me of the first time I saw the movie "Rush", I looked at my wife and told her that of all the people I knew between say 1970 and 1978, there are only a few I would not immediately run off if they showed up at my doorstep. Sound on Rainbow Bridge sucks by the way, so don't let that be your rationale for getting it. I would seriously recommend borrowing this before buying it. Only for seriously uncritical Jimi Hendrix fans. I also agree with the one guy, the estate has miles of unedited, unshown footage which is begging to be given a good mix and released on a 2 or 3 DVD set. Call it the Best Visual and Audio representation of Jimi. There are those of us who would pay some real money for that. Only gave it 3 stars because of the music, otherwise it would be -1 star.

Review: Buy this only for the sound track and the onstage performance by Jimi, Mitch and Billy. Luckily there is a menu to go right to the songs and miss all the hippy nonsense.

Review: do not buy this dvd, it has little or nothing to do with jimi hendrix. it says he plays on a volcano in hawaii, but its more like a feild. unless you a hippy, out of your mind on drugs, this movie wont appeal to you. it makes no sense, has no story line, and hardly any jimi hendrix footage. do your self a favor and buy a different hendrix dvd like live at berkely or experience hendrix. it conclusion it sucks

Review: Easily mistaken for a film about Jimi Hendrix, this movie is actually about Pat Hartley's adventure to Maui to meet with a group of hippies struggling to establish a spiritually inspired model existence. Jimi's brief appearances and live performance in the film are reason enough to check Rainbow Bridge out, but his part in the film is marginal. Laughably bad at times, the documentary-styled film plods along for the most part. The hippies 'rap,' meditate, exercise, surf, and just hang around. They meet a few bizarre personalities: a clairvoyant, a woman convinced that extraterrestrials are living on Earth, and of course Jimi Hendrix, among others. At one point Hendrix stumbles into frame drunk, mumbling something about the downers he had just popped. The film randomly jumps into fantasy segments that parody The Establishment, with Jimi participating in one where he plays the part of a rifle-wielding assassin. But the majority of the film is made up of scenes that cut from one conversation to another, juxtaposing the 'trips' that the hippies share. For instance, a girl tries to put the moves on one of the spiritual guides in a scene intermittently cut with an argument about the spiritual turmoil created by sexual relationships. LSD is discussed as a source of spiritual awakening by some while others argue the drug is as spiritually polluting as sex. Drugs get smuggled to Hawaii under the panel of a surfboard. And when one guy gets hit on by another guy, even homophobia gets into the picture. The Rainbow Bridge is pretty much simple exploitation but at times a candid look at a group of young men and women desperately searching for an ideal way of life. Though they never get beyond their disagreements, Pat Hartley's conclusion is that they each benefited from their experiences at The Rainbow Bridge.

Review: Even the most fanatical Hendrix fan will recoil in horror soon into this film. The deceptive packaging makes it appear to be a concert film... highlighting pics of live footage not from the movie, listing songs which appear only as background tunes and the final insult... the DVD sound mix is a horrible mono wash of low fi. The relatively brief footage of live Hendrix does have some bright spots, but they are overshadowed by cuts to a movie scripted audience no one would care to see. This film is "bad acid", save your cash for the good stuff man. =)

Summary: worst film of all the taped Hendrix performance
Review: Hendrix had many performances taped during his short musical career. And none of these performances have been released in their entire. So don't be fooled by the line 125-minute, uncut performance the sad truth is that only 30 minutes of the film features Hendrix performing. The other 95 minutes are boring hippie rubish wich no one wants to see. Worst thing is how, the way to short, Hendrix performance is compiled (people who own the live CD of the performance will know what I mean)Hear my train a' coming, Vodoo Child, Purpel Haze are cut into a medly! . My advice don't buy this, buy the new released DVD-Hendrix Live at the Filmore East (available at Amazon) or see if you can get Jimi Plays Berkeley (unfortunately not available at the time)

Summary: Not a great film but I like it
Review: I enjoy this film because it tries to be honest and show how some people managed to live an alternative life style in the early 1970's, living like beach bums in Hawaii while listening to Hendrix's music. There is a rare 20 minute edited live performance of hendrix with Mitchell on drums and Billy Cox on bass, and few scenes with Hendrix talking to friends in front of the camera, inside of a "hide-away" structure. The sound quality is not the greatest, but is OK. You will need to pump this one through your big stereo speakers because built in TV speakers are not going to be enough by themselves to clarify the sound on this 1971 film.
