Summary: Like picking at a Technicolor scab
Review: Despite the rave reviews from foreign lands, I found this film lacking both a coherent plot and a consistent, identifiable point of view towards its protagonist. Is "Lucky" Jackson a tragic victim of his own hubris or a hapless existentialist antihero who must choose between two equally pointless fates, laboring as a waiter or risking his absurd existence in the pitiless desert wastes, symbolic of the spiritual wasteland of Las Vegas? The filmmakers were apparently too lazy to decide or perhaps have left it up to the viewer. Robert Bresson's Au Hazard, Balthasar deals with many of the same themes in a more compelling fashion, although the donkey upon whom that film bases its narrative is not as hot-looking as Ann-Margaret. So it evens out more or less.

Summary: One of my favorite movies of all time!!!
Review: This is one of the best feel good movies I have ever seen. The first time I saw this I couldn't get over Ann-Margret & Elvis' chemistry. They give each other those looks & it just makes you smile. It's a fun movie with great music.

Summary: PRETTY GOOD 60'S ELVIS MOVIE
Review: ELVIS LOOKS COOL, ANN MARGARET NEVER LOOKED MORE SEXY, GREAT SONGS AND LOVELY SCERERY - EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ALL FILMED IN THE HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS. THIS IS A FEEL GOOD MOVIE. THE PLOT IS OBVIOUS BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER. THIS IS ELVIS WHEN HE STILL CARED ABOUT HIS MOVIES AND YOU CAN SEE THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN HIM AND ANN. (HE DATED HER WHILE MAKING THE FILM) THIS FILM IS DEFINTLY WORTH ADDING TO YOUR ELVIS COLLECTION EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A HARDCORE FAN LIKE MYSELF.

Summary: Fun
Review: This is undoubtedly the best of what Elvis used to call his "travelogues". "Viva Las Vegas" varies from most of his other films in that features a good script, good direction, and a good supporting cast. Good songs, a good story, and a good movie. Highly recommended. Viva Elvis!

Summary: Ann-Margret and the King of Las Vegas
Review: Viva Las Vegas pounds with the rhythms of early sixties pulsating pop and jungle boogie as purveyed by the King and Queen of American Pop. Director George Sidney has transcribed Sally Benson's witty and fast-paced script into a swingin' affair as El and Ann ride the merry-go-round of 'love in bloom'. Running at a little over 80 minutes Sidney has concocted a melange of pure Hollywood hokum, albeit with panache and tongue slightly in cheek. The King was riding the long crest of a wave about to peak and be swamped by those long haired lovers from liverpool. But, hey! this is Hollywood after all, and what does it matter if Elvis does get pushed into a pool from a high dive board, and loses a wad of (hard earned bread). We just know he's gonna git his girl, and that, after all, is what makes an ELVIS PRESLEY picture. As the King himself says in the film, "The lady loves me, but she doesn't know it yet". Yea verily to that, and keep on rockin!

Summary: I should have been born 60 years ago...
Review: I'm all about Elvis. I'm 24 and my room is covered in his pictures. I LOVE this movie. I think personally that it's one of his best. I could sit here and watch him sing and move and never get tired of him. My favorite scenes are 1. when he's singing "The Lady Loves Me". And 2. when he's on her dance stage singing "My Baby Loves Me". Of course also when he performs the title song. I hope all avid Elvis fans have this movie in their collection.

Summary: Elvis & Ann-Margret -- What a Winning Pair!
Review: I always thought that Elvis' 1957 "Jailhouse Rock" was about as good as a film musical gets. Then came the 60s and "Viva Las Vegas". This film gets 5 stars for total entertainment! From the light boy-meets-girl formula to the snappy tunes, "Viva Las Vegas" is a winner. The absolute best scene is the fantastic choreography performed to the title tune. Wow! -- The soundtrack is excellent, featuring songs like "What's I Say", "The Yellow Rose Of Texas" and "The Lady Loves Me". -- Elvis Presley will always be "The King" to me. I think as a Rock & Roll Legend he stands unchallenged. Whatever he may have lagged in acting ability, he made up for in sheer "presence" and ability to do what he did so well: entertain! This film is tops in my book!

Summary: Roll Over Wayne Newton, Tell Tom Jones The News!
Review: Elvis was, is and always will be the king - especially the king of Las Vegas! The song "Viva Las Vegas" kicks off the movie as the camera pans down Fremont Street and the Vegas strip, ending as Elvis drives up to the Flamingo hotel. This gives the movie a dated look, since Vegas has changed so much since 1963, the year this movie was filmed. Elvis adds to this feeling of nostalgia, looking as we best remember him - strong, healthy and at the top of his form. Of all his leading ladies, only Ann-Margret can match his screen presence with her beauty, sex appeal and talent. The heat they give off in their scenes together almost melts the cameras! Say what you will about Elvis Presley's movies, they were always entertaining. This is the most thoroughly enjoyable of all of his films, and the one that bests stands up to the test of time.

Summary: viva las vegas the best movie ever!!
Review: Namely, kitchy and fun. I highly recommend this movie, but it is not a cinematic masterpiece, so can't give it more than 3 stars.

It is colorful, full of songs, dancing, great costumes, and, as an another reviewer put it, void of a plot. If you like Elvis movies, this last point isn't a problem. These movies are a counterbalance to my love of crime dramas, so I just appreciate them for what they are: fun movies from a seemingly more innocent time.

If you like Viva Las Vegas, also try Blue Hawaii. It is another great one.
