10 out of 5 for Atmosphere
10 out of 5 for Sound Quality
10 out of 5 for Video Quality
10 out of 5 for George's Musician/Friends
10 out of 5 for the Songs

Summary: Nicely done tribute for a strong musician by many of same.
Review: Remembering these tunes that George contributed... lest we forget where they came from...needed doing. This does it really well. Clapton did a fine, fine job selecting, directing the music and playing, as do all of the musicians. Many fine performances. Billy Preston is exceptional and even Ringo does two numbers that make you smile. This concert starts out with just enough sitar to remind (Norah Jones' half-sister and her pop Ravi) and gives us a view of George's varied interests and several musical lives beyond "The Beatles" days. Disc 1 (full concert) has the feel of a filmed version, not as crisp and DVD-sharp as I expected, but the musical sounds and moods overpower this. A good couple of hours. Worth it.

Summary: Moving beyond words
Review: I watched this dvd over the weekend and all I can say is that it moved me to tears. Incredible throughout, but especially the ending. My favorite two pieces would have to be "Isn't It a Pity" and "Horse to Water". I watched the latter song no less than 7 times in a row. Who the heck is Sam Brown? Oh my God, she steals the show.

Excellent sound and video. You must buy this.

Peace to all.

Summary: As good as being there
Review: As one of the lucky 5000 audience members who attended the event captured on this DVD, I can assure you it's the next best thing to having been there. It takes five thousand of us to fill the Albert Hall. Now we know. Tremendous sound quality (make sure your system is up to snuff) and images to match. The emotion comes through and even McCartney's minimal contribution is welcomed -- he couldn't have really done less. His snide crack at Clapton was thankfully edited out.

Anoushka Shankar (Nora Jones' half sister) is like an Indian goddess descended on Earth to play sitar for us mere mortals. Sort of makes you wonder whether there IS such a thing as musical genes. Ravi, you dog !

One might have hoped for a few more pictures of George in the photos bonus , but there are plenty of THOSE floating around. Also, not one single camera angle of Sir George Martin who was watching enraptured from the royal box -- very moving.

And if you really want the feel of what it was like to be there, burn some incense. The place was full of it. Enjoy !

Summary: A Concert For The Ages
Review: An extraordinary concert - musically, sonically, and visually. I started it at 11pm on the night of the blizzard, thinking I'd just start it, watch the best bits, and continue the next day. But I couldn't stop watching. This is a concert for the ages.

First, for those of us who have never adapted to the MTV geenration's style of quick cuts and multiple angles, it's a pleasure to see camerawork with long slow cuts, intelligently placed. You get a "you are there" experience. From the musicans' point of view on stage, through extraordinary "overview" shots of this gorgeous hall. Sonically, the mix is sensational. If you see/hear this concert projected in a "home theater" environment with a fine 5.1 system you will be very, very pleased. Every instrument is clearly placed, there is a rock solid bass, vocals are up front, close your eyes and you can still "see it". But you really need to see the visual images of these guys to appreciate the music they made. For many of us, these are our contemporary rock heroes. And for many, there is no hiding the years that have passed.

It opens with Eric Clapton's noble introduction (apparantly edited to omit his mistaken reference to "George's wife Dhani" the latter being his son. (Paul McC. later reminded him of his mistake on stage - tacky Sir Paul, very tacky. This too, has been editted out) An aged Ravi Shanker - looking very much like the village wise man in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - opens the concert along with his daughter, seque-ing into a beautiful "The Inner Light" sung by Jeff Lyne. Beautiful. The suite of indian music composed for the occasion sets the tone nicely. And it reminds us that it was George Harrision who first brought "World Music" into the rock/pop scene.

Sam Brown (Joe Brown's daughter) does an absolutely scorching version of Horse To The Water Joe Brown - unknown to most of us stateside fans - a British musician and George ukelale mentor, seems an odd choice to sing Here Comes The Sun, but does the song proud. His closing uke sing-a-long I'll See You In My Dreams will bring tears to your eyes (especially when you see the falling flower petals which accompany it on the DVD) Ringo is in fine voice but just a wee bit TOO jovial, thin as a rail, 60s velveteen jacket, constant peace signs, and bouncing and conducting. Maybe it was nerves. Everyone else is superb - particularly the magisterial Billy Preston, Eric clapton, and of course, "Our Jeff" Lynn. Gary Brooker's name may elude some of you, but as soon as he begins singing Old Brown Shoe, you'll probably place the voice - think A Whiter Shade of Pale. Add Jim Keltner, Klaus Voorman (!) on bass, and the incredible one-of-a-kind Ray Cooper on persussion (if you've never seen Ray Cooper live and in action - you're in fora real treat!) - well, it's a killer band. All play it straight - solid musicianship on the soundtrack to our lives. It's really great stuff. This one's a keeper. As Ravi Shanker says at the beginning - "George is here with us, after all, how could he not be?"

Summary: Money well spent
Review: My buddy Bob & I have been doing a once or twice a year get togethers to watch Beatles video (mostly bootlegs) for over 20 years. We love George and the Carl Perkins Rockabilly session is a real fave. We were 6th row for Paul in Atlanta in May '02. We are serious. The concert for George is great. It's not the party that say Paul at the Cavern is, but it is great. We always loved obscure Beatles like "I Need You" from Help. Remember in the movie that scene at somewhere like Stonehenge with the military thing going on when he sings that song? Tom Petty doing it is a real "crank it" moment for us. The photography is beautiful and the music is fun. Get started with this and later wear it out with "Carl Perkins; A Rockabilly Session," from 1985. It's the happiest George on video there is. This 2 dvd set is both the theatrical release with interviews and the entire show. Watch them both, but don't be surprised when the "entire show" version becomes your favorite. Buying this DVD is a good investment in your mental health. Enjoy!

Summary: A Most Wonderful Exceptional DVD!
Review: I am, and always will be, a BIG Beatles fan. I have followed them since I was born. I remember being so sad when George and Patti divorced, then even more sad when Patty and Eric divorced. And to see Eric singing "Something"--wow. If I were Patty, I would have cried. I sat alone in my living room watching this DVD, and I kept having to repeat everything, because it was so GREAT! You can't top Billy Preston, he was really great. And I really enjoyed Jools Holland and Joe Brown. I was greatly surprised that Tom Hanks was on the DVD! I highly recommend this DVD--it's really wonderful, and the performances are probably some of the best you'll ever see!

Summary: What a Wonderful Tribute To a Wonderful Artist
Review: As soon I as have received my DVD, I started watching it. And I could hardly stop doing it... It is really a wonderful DVD from the package itself to its contents. Definitely a masterpiece to all George's fans throughtout the world. I have watched both DVDs 1 and 2 entirely and enjoyed so much.

There is NO weak point in the show - from the Indian music session to George's great songs beatifully performed by his long time pals like Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and many many others. Tom Petty was astonishedly great, Billy Preston was playing with great joy and happiness (as always), Anoushka Shankar (Ravi Shankar's daughter) played wonderfully the sitar solo in the beautiful song "Your Eyes", and Joe Brown was divine in "I'll See You In My Dreams" - it was the final number and as he was singing, what seemed to be yellow and red petals were falling down from Albert Hall's roof throughtout the theater.

Monty Pytton has also a hilarious performance - even my kids have watched it over and over again...

Other highlights: Horse to the Water - as far as I know, the last song composed and recorded by George (with his son Dhani) for Jools Holland CD. It seems it was the first time this (beautiful) song was presented in a live performance. Unfortunetely this is the only song in the entire show which is not included in the Concert for George CD (God knows why!!).

After many many years another old friend showed up to play in a couple of songs: Klaus Voormann... But hardly noticed because he was positioned behind several other guitarists on the stage.

Certainly this one now is one of my favorite DVDs and one of my favorite shows as well. Worth every penny, cent or whatever money you are dealing with.

Summary: Something real.
Review: This DVD is almost too much to watch. If you want a moment away from the banality of current music landscape, enjoy this with some friends and revel in pure love for George and what he gave us. Audio and visual quality are outstanding, makes you want to cry and laugh. Can't ask for anything more.
