Summary: Hendrix....nuff said
Review: To put Hendrix in perspective, you have to understand the time in which he hit the scene. Sure Townshend was smashing his guitar and such but Hendrix wore wild outfits, used explosive feedback and effects, smashed his guitar, humped his guitar, humped the Marshall amps, licked his tongue at the girls, and just generally undulated throughout his entire show. Up until that time, no one had ever seen a performer do anything like this. When he burned his guitar at Monterey, the press were beyond shocked!! They didnt know wether to s**t or go blind.
Ok now on to the review of the DVD hehe. This documentary, filmed in 1973 is very well done. Using concert footage interspersed with candid, thoughtful interview of his bandmates and the people who knew him best, it is a fascinating insight in to the Hendrix legend.
So pick it up today, its terrific!!

Summary: Why not in Stereo
Review: At least? I thought the documentery was phenominal - but was a bit disapointed when I found that even the dvd version was in Mono format. I thought maybe I got a bum dvd or some other cruel joke was being played, but true, it says on the back that it was released in the US in MONO. WHY???
I loved it anyway, expecially the opening where Jimi plays a 12 string...gave me chills...absolutely awesome!!

I was about 13 when i first saw this film,
my best freind did not know it but by making,
me go see this film,he was going to change,
for good or bad my LIFE forever.
I did not really like jimi at the TIME,
but he had a great presants that could not be over looked.
For the first time in my life i saw my inner soul,
a TRUE SOUL BROTHER,his black african and native american,
Irish roots, i sher with him.
his left handedness and shuffled child hood.
and his 4REAL HONESTY and shyness i found reflected in me.
this is not the best documentery in the world,
but if you dont know anything about THE MAN,
then you must check this flik out.
it might just make you SEE DEEPER than the surfes,
of all things will allow.
SEE as many HENDRIX DVD`S AS YOU CAN,
There all diferant,
and werth the (EXPEIENCE).

Review: For any Hendryx lover, this is it!Fabulous concert footage of the king of electrical rock guitar, footage for the serious collector...it doesnt get any better than this.I could watch the "Johnny Be Goode" anyday, anytime...also if possible find an old copy of the album since not available on cd as far as I know!

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST FANS OF THE LATE JIMI
Review: I loved this movie it has great clips of some of jimi's most amazing concerts it has people that really knew him talking about the things that brings him back to earth and makes him seem like a normal person like being shy and such n such,but at the same time they make him seem more than life.I really loved the red house clip and the rare clip of him playing the 12 string box guitar.The clip were he plays the star spangled banner,it was so good i ordered the live at wood stock movie. I will name all the songs played,well the ones i remember because i know how it is when you go by these reviews...Purple haze,"Hear my train a comin",Machine Gun,The Star Spangled Banner,Johny B Good,Red house,"Rock Me Baby", Wild Thing,(some of)Don't Live Today,there may be 1 or 2 more i aint watched it in a while. After about the 30th or 40th time you see it you kinda get tired of the interviews because you already know it all,but you still have to get this movie because the interviews are real good they talk a little about jimi and his acid and its just an over all great movie....AMAZING MOVIE ABOUT JIMI. ! .....well i'll be back later to tell you about another great jimi movie later until then pieace out all!

Review: I remember taping this off the TV when I was fifteen (that's fifteen years ago, folks) because all my school mates trendily professed a great love of Hendrix, and I had never really understood what all the fuss was about. Let's face it, if you pull up a chair and listen to your average Hendrix record, it's pretty difficult to appreciate what's the big deal: his technique might have been groundbreaking at the time, but it's been a long thirty years in Rock 'n' Roll, and there have been a lot of guitar players producing a lot of pretty crazy stuff ever since. But somehow, seeing it happen in front of you causes the scales to fall from your eyes, and the interviews with the likes of one-time girlfriend Fayne Pridgeon, two hilarious hipsters from Greenwich Village, Eric Clapton, an Elvis-suited, overweight Lou Reed and most amusingly of all, a heavily stoned and bechecked-suited Pete Townsend, make for a fascinating documentary which puts Hendrix's legacy slap bang back into context, and gives a fascinating window into life in 1973 at the same time. But what is truly great about this documentary is how it sacrifices neither background context nor music: as well as the interviews there is no shortage of footage of Hendrix live and in the studio. The band's stunning performance at Monterey is well represented, with full takes of Hey Joe, the barn-storming version of Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone (Jimi adored Bob Dylan) and of course the famous guitar sacrifice during Wild thing are reproduced in full for your viewing pleasure. Also featured are legendary moments such as the Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock, the studio take, on twelve-string, of "Hear My Train A Comin'", and "Machine Gun" from the Filmore East show with the Band of Gypsies. Away from his stratocaster Hendrix comes across as a surpisingly delicate, almost shy, figure. Asked in a chat show whether he recieved hate-mail following his "unconventional" rendition of the national anthem he looks genuinely baffled, and replies "what are you talking about? Unconventional? I thought it was beautiful" to an explosion of applause from the studio audience. If, like I did, you missed Hendrix first time round, then you couldn't ask for a better primer now. Compulsive viewing.

Others tend to paint a self-serving picture of their involvement in the Hendrix Experience, but all of the interviews serve to paint in part of the picture, for good or ill. The most interesting part for me was the long-haired Alan Douglas being presented as Hendrix' "acid taster". How did this freak end up in control of Hendrix' music-to the point of presuming to add music to unfinished tapes and release them as posthumous alblums? Glaringly absent is bassist Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell appears for a split second.
Anyway, the most eloquent statement comes at the end when a beautiful french -accented woman friend of Jimi's swaying in a hammock points out that while we all will grow old,Jimi and his music never will.

Summary: absolutely unbeatable masterpiece!
Review: I'm a new comer of Jimi Hendrix although I'd heard his name for decade. Now I truely understand why he's a guitar god (I can't force myself to agree that eric clapton is one! sorry!), as when I compare him with satriani or even vai--I just can't denied that he's simply some steps in front...he IS guitar!
You must have this extraordinary musical oriented and yet informative DVD, even if you were a classical violist.
Last word, it's so inspiring.
